Tesserae Tuesday

I'm excited to share the sun I was working on recently and had to put aside. I had run out of the tiles I needed to finished it and therefore had to wait for the glass tiles to arrive. Now that I have them, I can finish!

See those blank spots? That's all that's left to complete. Really happy to have these tiles back in my rotation once more. I love iridescent stained glass!

That's all I have for this time. I really can't wait to get this pretty sun grouted and listed on Etsy!

Mosaic Monday - Lotus Flower Vase

Height: 8 Inches; Width: 3 Inches

Lotus Flower Mosaic Stained Glass Vase. Petals are in all different hues of blue in stained glass; all hand cut. The center is a piece of depression glass from a broken plate. Around the flower are green/blue and purple stained glass.

This is such a gorgeous mosaic vase. From top to bottom this mosaic is filled with small square and flower petal shaped hand cut pieces. I'm very proud of this vase and it's beauty. The mosaic muse really came through for us this time! Rich concentrated colors inhabit this beauty.

Use this vase with natural light when you meditate. It's a great mandala to study and creates a wonderful Zen feeling. Especially when a candle or lights are inside. Flowers look beautiful in this vase or it can sit on a shelf or windowsill and shine on it's own. Add some LED lights inside for a nice table setting or as added interest for a corner in any room. Pull this out for special occasions or use it every single day. We love useful and decorative art.

This vase is handmade with love and one of my favorite mosaic decor items to create and give.

DO NOT SUBMERGE IN WATER.

Measures 8 x 3 inches

Indoor use recommended. Can be used outdoors but do not leave in weather; rain or temperature changes. This is not weather-proof.

$65.00 USD - FREE SHIPPING (USA ONLY)

Throwback Thursday

Gotta love moon art! I call this one "Moon Glow". This piece is small but has a lot of interesting elements. A crescent moon inside a circle rainbow in stained glass and mirror.

I had some left over pieces of wood that my Dad gave me and that's where this started. I love the unusual shape at the top. If you held it any other way, you wouldn't see the design I imagined on it. As soon as I picked it up, I knew it had to be in this direction.

There are a lot of shiny hand cut pieces of glass and mirror in this small wall art. Colors include pink, blue, yellow, silver mirror, red, purple, all surrounded with stars and clouds in stained glass, some added to the mosaic once it was grouted. I made this cool piece in 2010.

Height: 4.5 Inches; Width: 6 Inches

WIP Wednesday

It should take another week to get the larkspur mosaic completely finished. It's coming along really well.

Filling in the leaves and stems made it easier to do the blossoms.

Each session takes about 1-1/2 hours to do.

I really love this glass combination. And I still have some left over! Yay!

Filling in with yellow was the right choice, I believe. It looks awesome so far!

Where I left it, Tuesday evening. A few more sessions and then resting a bit before grouting will do it!

Tesserae Tuesday

There's a good chance that once the larkspur flower is finished and resting (waiting for glue to dry so it can be grouted), I'll be working on this ginormous crescent moon. Below is an example of how I work. The process is simple and not all that exciting but it is a process just the same.

I'm really not sure I'll have enough glass with these choice colors I've picked. At first, I had these:

Two different kinds of mirror and assorted blues (the lightest is iridescent). It is okay enough as it is, but I felt the amount I had of the blues might not be enough. That's when I started looking at my stash and deciding what else I could add. I found a tan or beige glass, also iridescent.

I don't think that's quite as "me" as I need it to be. I have some yellow and orange glass. That would look kind of cool. Both would work, actually, together with the glass I've already chosen.

I like this combination and will use them all. With the addition of the lighter colors that I like to use, the dark grout will make it pop!

Mosaic Monday - The View From Here

This abstract mosaic wall art was inspired by the countryside of Bucks County, PA where I'm currently residing. I've named it: "The View From Here" because I used a few photos I've taken recently of the trees and mountainside as well as sunsets/sunrises from my window.

Material: stained glass

Dimensions: Height: 8.75 Inches; Width: 8.75 Inches

Done in rich earth tones in green, blue, brown, orange, pink and red in stained glass.

My signature, a peace sign charm, has been added. Back has a saw tooth hanger making it ready for hanging. A few felt pads have been attached so the painted back will not scratch your walls. Signed and dated.

Indoor Use Only.

$60.00 USD - FREE SHIPPING (USA ONLY)

Fabulous Friday

Today, June 19th, is World Sauntering Day! Join me in remembering life is beyond worries, and one should enjoy it to the fullest! I've found some fun things on Etsy in my favorites to help you saunter your way into the best day ever.

What does the word "saunter" mean to you? A walk in the woods, through a meadow, by a stream or river? Does it mean walking deliberately slow to enjoy a pathway full of flowers or through your garden in spring? These items remind us to enjoy our walk through life. Wherever it may be.

Throwback Thursday

I was shuffling through my old photos and came across the star box I made for an auction in 2014. I think it's kind of cool mostly because it's got a sun on the top of the lid. When you open the box, the underside of the lid has a crescent moon. The bottom of the box is all done inside with mirror, the rest is glass; iridescent and regular stained glass. It's truly a work of art and one-of-a-kind.

The bottom, done in dark blue glass has half circles on it to keep it from scratching surfaces when placed on them.

I think this was the last star box I had in my stash. It went to a worthy cause, Doctors Without Borders at the end of 2014.

WIP Wednesday

There's not much to show yet, but I have started the larkspur. This is for a series of 12. I'm making mosaics using the birth flower for each month. This is for July. Larkspur or delphinium.

I'm still unsure it'll come through in the way I want it, but it's up to me to make peace with what does come. Going with the flow ...

The porous nature of the thin set used on this (as you may recall it's Styrofoam covered in plaster cast strips and thin set) has caused the glass to be a little resistant. I'm going to have to use a lot more glue on these pieces and may have to redo what I've done here just to make sure it stays put when it's time to grout. I don't remember having that problem with the piece I did before this one, so it might just be a spot that's too thick or not as smooth as the other one was.

In any case, I have started and I'm happy with these colors.

This might take a while with many stops and starts or it could go quickly. I'm thinking I'd like to enjoy the experience of the 1st flower in the series. Hopefully I'll take my time and appreciate the journey.

Tesserae Tuesday

I wanted to show the glass that I recently purchased through a shop at Etsy. I love this color combo for the larkspur or delphinium I'm going to attempt to mosaic.

Originally, I had glued the printout to the board I'm using but I didn't like the way the design came through under the glass. It still will do that, but with the drawing, it won't be as obvious. It seems a bit daunting to me at the moment but once I get going on it, it should be fun.

I've learned to go with the flow, so whatever happens as I am creating this flower, it will all be a learning experience. Every mosaic I make has something to teach me.

It was difficult to get a good shot of it for some reason. It looks more blue than purple here but it is periwinkle and will look more like that when I use it. The other glass is a beautiful iridescent glass in light blue violet. These two combined in this mosaic will be pretty cool.

My kitty, Baby, decided she wanted to see what I was doing as I had all these things where she could get to them on the blanket chest.

Little Miss Nosy had to sniff everything. Including the lamp. But this photo above shows the glass colors a little better and the green glass I'll use for the stems.

Final inspection. Kitty approved. On with the creating!!

Mosaic Monday

How about a mosaic duck on a stick?! 😁

Materials: dish tiles, stained glass, mirror

Dimensions: Height: 12 Inches; Width: 8 Inches

Mosaic Duck in soft yellow dish tiles hand cut to fit. Surrounded around the duck itself are pink iridescent stained glass tiles. The base has two of my groovy flowers on it in greens and pinks along with mirror. The stick and base are painted in a dark brown.

This is a great collectible item for those who like to acquire unusual pieces of art. Works well in a baby's room or for a young adult's room. Entryway, bathroom, even kitchen could use this cool looking duck placed on a shelf or take center stage on a table.

Be sure to use the "zoom" feature to see the details in the photos clearly. Shots of this mosaic outdoors is for the natural light for the photograph and not recommended to keep outside exposed to the elements.

Measures 12 inches high, duck is 8 inches across, base is 5.5 x 2.5 inches.

Indoor use only.

$50.00 USD - FREE SHIPPING (USA ONLY)
