In The Studio - Part One

There's not much going on this week, in the studio. The muse and I are resting now that I've finished up the placing of glass and mirror and other fun things on the 10 small gifts for my Facebook buds.

I'm still having a lot of fun with doodles, drawing and coloring every day. I have taken an old book and turned it into an art journal, something I've wanted to do for a good long time now. Many of the pages will be pulled out to draw on, but some are staying in the journal.

Gesso (a primer) was added to the outside of the book which was then painted in my favorite color of green. The inside has gotten some gesso on it too. I glued a few pages together to give it some stability.

I have almost used up all the gelly rolls and gel pens! They don't last long when you use them every day. I did this Hamsa with gelly roll pens this week.

I added some watercolor crayons and pencils to my ever growing stash of art supplies.

Last night I finished up some of the pencil and pen drawings with lots of color!

I'm waiting for some awesome pens to arrive. Once they have, some doodles will be made using those only with no color necessary. I'm excited to start playing with them!

I've been looking over the substrates I have to mosaic to try to decide what to work on next. I will give it a few more days to allow the muse to rest a bit. I'm positive we'll get going on something very soon.

I've added quite a few fun things to Storenvy recently. I've taken some of my photos of doodles, mosaics and nature and made them into pillows, switch plate covers and grocery tote bags. Here's the newest grocery totes added yesterday.

Tote bags are perfect for so many occasions.

Sturdy and affordable. That's how society6 does it! I love seeing my photos of nature and mosaics on these tote bags.

"Autumnal Bliss" on Society6

'Autumnal Bliss'
Beautiful Fall Maple Leaves
This is my favorite time of year. The autumn leaves bring cooler temperatures (we call it sweater weather) and the smells of wood burning in neighboring fireplaces pierce the air. The squirrels go crazy when they see pumpkins on porches and eat until they are fat and ready to nap --- often right inside the pumpkin they've nibbled on for hours. The wind swirls the leaves around the ground making them dance, dodge and weave. It's magical.

Now available on society6 is a new photo taken recently of the delightful trees in our immediate area here in PA.

Shown here in a frame, as an iPhone case, tote, pillow cover and shower curtain, 'Autumnal Bliss' would make a great gift for anyone. Think of the people on your list this holiday season and head on over to Cindy White Photo Art today.

In The Studio

There's lots to share today, so let's get to it!

The custom order is coming to an end and I've experienced a few mixed emotions along the way. I love being productive and if you've followed this blog for a while you usually see a lot of different things I do to stay happy and creative. When work comes to an end, I often get a bit depressed or sad that it's over. But I'm also ready to take a break and begin on something new!

The last 3 pieces in the custom order are now in the "to be grouted" pile waiting for glue to dry. This might take a while. I used Weldbond, a white glue that dries clear, on my glass-on-glass pieces and the milky white glue stays milky for a while. It can also look clear but go back to milky white when grouted. It often takes a very long time (months) for the glue to completely turn back to clear. I know it will change eventually, luckily it always has, but I want to wait another week before grouting the 2 vases that show obvious signs of wet glue. Each day a little more on each of the white spots becomes clear. Another week will do it!

When it came time to work on the last 2 vases, I was a little unclear as to what I wanted to do with them. Sometimes grabbing a lot of glass scraps and letting it sit in front of me for a while, allows my muse to figure out a specific design to use.

Blue-green and frosted iridescent glass were the muse's choices.

Confetti glass, a favorite of mine, was placed on this vase in large nipped chunks. If you look closely, you can see the milky white of the glue in this photo which was taken a few days ago. There is less of this visible this morning but it's not completely dry yet.

Next came the peace sign. The last item in the custom order.

The only request the customer made was to use blue mirror glass in some way on it.

Many of the items still in need of grouting are sitting all together here along with a grouted vase.
The swirls around the peace sign were done in the blue mirror. I've filled in around that with complimentary blues in a few various shades.

While waiting for glue to dry, I can seal the light switch plate covers and grout the yellow vase this weekend.

I took some new photos of a group of bottles I've decided to sell as a set of 3. My daughter recently surprised me with "just because" flowers (the upside to her job in the floral department) in pinks, white and blue using food coloring to get the bold colors she wanted. The flowers (seen in the above photo with the peace sign) made a great back drop for my new photos.

Coming Soon! Set of 3 mosaic bottles - all in blue.
I've got some new items to share from the 2nd Etsy shop. My favorite for this week: "Groovy Pear". I really love this print. I hope you all do too!

Promo Blast!

The very first mixed media art I attempted called "A Dreamer's Fleeting Moments" has 3 small pieces of art attached to a large piece of art. The 3 small pieces have a story to tell, as a dream would.

I have shared all of this info before through this blog, but just to recap: I made the base using Styrofoam squares from a box, covered it in plaster cast strips, added a layer or two of thin set cement and then painted and glittered it up, then glued tempered glass and seed beads and micro beads onto it too. This sits next to me because I never framed it; I love the sides (paint drips are so pretty!!) and smile often when I look at it.

Not so long ago, after the "new to me" camera arrived, I played with photographing this piece. What resulted was one spectacular photo that sort of amazed me.

That, in turn, made me want to share it, as I often like to do with photos I like, on society6. Look at this print in all it's different incarnations. I LOVE them all!

Throw Pillows - 3 sizes available
iPhone / iPod Case - many models to choose from

Tote Bag - 3 sizes available
Lots of choices. All so totally cool. I'm diggin' this "new to me" camera a lot!

Hop on over to society6 and check out all the items available. Don't forget you can get a print of this photo framed or unframed. Be bold and get it framed in red. Wow!!
