WIP Wednesday - Gazing Ball and Refrigerator Woes

This has been an unusual week for me. My fridge/freezer here in the attic decided it's no longer going to work. I had to cook everything from the freezer that I could and tossed out quite a bit of food. Since I was raised by depression era people, you know that was almost painful to do. The good news is I have the means to get another fridge/freezer almost identical to what I had and to fill it up pretty well with fresh food once it arrives. Life is definitely challenging but it's all good!

What the above means for me is no mosaic time. Once things settle again, I'll have new work to share. However, here's where I left off ...

The last time I shared this gazing ball here on my blog it was very close to finished. It's now resting comfortably, waiting patiently for me to grout it all in black.

I really like the different tesserae I used here but it will be a bit of a challenge to grout because none of it is the same thickness. I run across that a lot and sometimes the sides of the dish tiles stay ungrouted just because there's nothing for the grout to grab a hold of. Usually it works out okay and isn't too obvious but sometimes it can bug me for a really long time until I try to do something to fix it.

Here's hoping I am okay with it, once it's grouted, because I'd like to put this in my Etsy shop.

Tomorrow is Theme Thursday. I'm really enjoying tying the theme to the Fabulous Friday posts. I hope you enjoy them too.

WIP Wednesday - Gazing Ball

I've been working fairly steadily on the gazing ball this week. It's coming along very nicely and should be resting in the "to be grouted" pile very soon.

It's going to look fantastic with black grout on it! Can't wait to see it become a finished mosaic. This will be available on my Etsy shop soon (this is for indoor use only due to the glue I used).

WIP Wednesday - Gazing Ball

I have gotten all three spaces filled in with stained glass this week. The heart, the flower and the peace sign are complete. Now I've started filling in the areas using dish tiles. I took photos of each area done in glass to see if the dish tiles would work. I like the way it looks so far, which is a very good thing. Below are photos of the progress as of Tuesday evening. I shared the heart last week, but am showing it here again along with the flower and peace sign.

Making sure the dish tiles look okay was the reason for these photos. I think they work well!

I started adding the tiles within the peace sign before finishing up for the day yesterday.

WIP Wednesday - The Tower of Now and a Gazing Ball

More progress was done with the tower but only to grout what I had finished so far. I had extra grout left over from grouting the Cornflower Sun and the Patchwork Peace Sign and didn't want to waste it.

I'm working on taking good photos to list the sun and peace sign. When I do, I'll share the listings once they're available.

Up next, on the table this week, is a gazing ball. This has a heart, a flower and a peace sign drawn on it. So far, the heart is the only thing finished.

Hopefully it won't be long before this one is in the grout pile.

WIP Wednesday - Swiriling Moon Amethyst and Patchwork Peace Sign

I've got two mosaics to share today. The Swirling Moon Amethyst is grouted in pretty plum grout. I think it's ready for the peace sign signature charm to be added and some photos for listing on Etsy.

The Patchwork Peace Sign I shared yesterday was finished within an hour. I love working on peace signs but I also love how they are a quick project for me, most of the time. It's satisfying to see the results so quickly too. Instant gratification!

The flowers aren't yet attached. I'll glue them in place once the mosaic is grouted in black. It will make these colors pop!

WIP Wednesday - Swirling Moon

It's early in the process of this mosaic, so there's only one photo to share. However, it is a beauty.

Look at those colors. The blending of the light purple, pinkish color and the iridescent pieces so far is very nice. I think this will be mostly feminine, perhaps for a teens room or even an adult who loves these colors and celestial designs. I had no idea when I started how it would look but so far, even though it's only just begun, I love it.

I'll share more on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter during the week. Hop on over and check those sites out to see the progress daily. Meanwhile, here on the blog, I'll share the work-in-progress on Wednesday.

Enjoy the moments!

WIP Wednesday - Swirling Moon

There's a good chance this mosaic will be in my shop within the next month. So far, I've got the design on it but am not yet clear on the colors I'll use. I know the swirls will be iridescent or mirror. That's the easy part.

I didn't get a photo of it, but the way I add a hole to MDF when I need one is by using a screw eye (a screw with a circle at one end) because I don't have a drill. It takes a little patience but it works.

WIP Wednesday - August Birth Flower: Gladiolus

The birth flower mosaic is coming along really well. The size is approximately 8-1/4 inches.

I took these photos below yesterday afternoon when the sun was coming through the window. I have to admit, it's going faster than I thought it would. So far I've got 4 hours into it. Another 2-4 will finish it up.

WIP Wednesday - Mosaic Crescent Moon

I'm considering calling this one Azure Moon. Not very original I guess but I think it describes it well.

This is where I left it when I took a break. Starting back up was really not difficult after resting for a while. The unfinished areas were completed within an hour.

I'm very pleased with how it looks. I'm considering my grout color choices. Until it is clear what to use, I won't grout it. Black is always a choice when I can't decide, but I have white and some purple and blue colorants. I also have a light beige color I could use. I think any light color will break up the darker spots in this so making the right decision is crucial. Perhaps I'll use the purple or I could use grey. As you can see, I have to make up my mind but it's still resting, so I don't have to decide right now. When the time comes, it'll be the perfect choice!

WIP Wednesday - Crescent Moon

Working on another crescent moon is almost as Zen as I can get. Celestial designs are my favorite.

I'm really digging this color combo. Initially I was going to add orange and yellow to it. That would have been fine but a bit busy and not what I wanted for this piece. I went with my original idea in color choices and am really glad I have.

I'll be working on this exclusively until it's ready for grout. By then, the 2 waiting to be grouted will be ready to be finished up. I'll share as I go!

WIP Wednesday

There's a lot to show for today's WIP. The fruit basket mosaic went rather quickly. I finished all but the frame around the fruit in almost one sitting.

Painting the substrate was a good idea, if I do say so myself. Although the fruit looks differently in mosaic form than in painted form, it helped me stay focused on color choices. The above photo shows 2 pieces of fruit finished.

This is about where I took a short break after doing the 2 pieces. The pear in the center looks a bit off to me, but I left it alone. Abstract art can be a bit off.

All fruit filled in and the blue added to the basket. Time for a glass of wine!

I really love this glass I used for the basket. It was gifted years ago and has been used often. I am slowly using it up. I am grateful for the gift.

Some of the photos are a bit fuzzy but I felt they were good enough to share here. Maybe the glass of wine had something to do with the focus and decision. :)

All ready for the frame which will be in iridescent black, iridescent blue and silver mirror. That won't take long to do at all. I'll share the final results next Wednesday. It's possible it will be grouted by then.
