WIP Wednesday

I've gathered up some glass choices for the next project. A unicorn for a sweet little girl who loves them!

I drew the design on the board and really loved the way it looked on the carbon paper. I might have to frame it because it's really kind of cool.

Placed in the window to see the design. Way cool.

Most of the colors for the background will be pink and maybe purple to go along with the red and yellow shown here. Of course I'll be adding mirror as well. Unclear as to the colors going into the unicorn itself but it'll come to me once I start working on her.

Scrap glass, broken glass cups (red and yellow shown here), and not shown: white for the mane, millefiori and silver mirror.
The best part of mosaic magic is how the idea starts in one direction and slowly transforms into something slightly different but still groovy.

I'll share this as it goes here and on Instagram. Follow along and enjoy the journey with me!

Let's Go Shopping!

One of my favorite mosaics is being featured here today. This is one of the newest listings I have on Etsy.

Star Mosaic Wall Art, Mosaic Wall Hanging, For The Home, Star, Small Mosaic Art, Retirement, Wedding, Anniversary, Birthday, Collectible
$30.00 USD

A bright star in silver mirror with a cool red and silver center focal piece of decorative glass surrounded by red glass that was once a broken vase cover this 4-1/2 inch piece of mosaic wall art. The sides have silver mirror and are grouted. A nifty piece of twine is attached for hanging.

I personally love hanging these kinds of mosaics near a light source. Natural light is the best to get the sun's reflective qualities on the mirror. A light show like no other spread all across walls and ceiling on a bright and beautiful day.

This would work really well in a baby's room, small child's room either boy or girl. If your children share space: bedroom or play area, this would fit right in. Those who collect items made with stars, should love this mosaic wall art. This has a rustic quality to it looks great around a lot of wood as seen in the photos.

In The Studio - Wednesday

I'm having a fun week in the studio. It's nice to just forget my troubles for a while and do what I love to do. There's nothing much else that compares.

I wanted to share a photo of the 3 sets of coasters I made for the "how to" posts I've been writing. They are so pretty all together.

I am also glad I have them handy for the craft fair I want to do towards the end of summer. Fingers crossed it all works out ... it seems to be, so far, so that's a really good sign!

I made a sweet Minnie Mouse for a soon to be 2 year old using a discarded plate and some broken dishes, mirror and a little stained glass.

I also had made some polymer clay words that I wanted to put on the plate, but they didn't really work too well on it. I wasn't sure what I was going to do with them until I found a small piece of Wediboard I had painted a design on (some flowers I think) and then covered over in paint because I wasn't happy with the results.

After toying with a few different things, I came up with this.

I put a ribbon through the hole at the top so it can be hung up on a wall. The sides are painted with pink paint and then I dabbed them in mica flakes in gold. Very effective, fast and easy project ... and CUTE!!

Now that the gifts are made, I'm starting work on a custom order. I'm struggling with depression right now so trying to focus on art has become more difficult than it should. However, although there are still a few things I'm mulling over with this one, I can start cutting out the shapes.

So far, I've only managed to get a little bit of work done on it. I'm okay with taking my time and I'm also okay with just doing a little when the emotional things I'm dealing with settle down enough to concentrate on other things.

My own design of a sun ready to be cut.
Cutting Wediboard is really easy but this design takes a little finesse.
The custom will be a sun, moon and stars to be hung on a wall. Once I figure out how I'll do the sides and get hangers, I can start the mosaic magic!

In The Studio - Part One

It's been a fairly good week so far. I managed to get some things grouted and listed a few things on Storenvy. That's always a good thing.

Grouting is coming along well but slowly. I create 1-3 small mosaics a day and grout 2 at each session unless they are 8-10 inches. The small ones, 3-6 inches can be done in duplicates before my body says "enough"!

I listed the sun and moon this week. So happy with how they turned out. I love that grout color!!

Mosaic Celestial Crescent Moon - 6 inches

Mosaic Celestial Sun - 6 inches

Whenever I list something new, I share it on many different social media sites including Pinterest. This morning I noticed someone pinned the crescent moon in their DIY board. I think that's wonderful that this inspires them to want to make their own mosaic! Whenever I see my mosaics pinned onto a board like that, I want to offer my help, just in case they need it. It is now my practice to write to them on their board, letting them know I'm here to help if they need it. I think everyone should learn how to mosaic and if they can't or decide it's not as much fun as they think, I hope they walk away from the experience in a positive light.

I'm telling you, it's so much better for your soul to see that favorite broken coffee cup or the broken plate that was part of Grandma's good china as a potential art project that you can hang on your wall or gift to someone you love. I used to cry when I broke my favorite dish or cup. Now I think, "Okay! What can I make with the pieces?!"

Speaking of pieces ... I made another peace sign with hand cut dish tiles!

A few days ago I discovered a box with some pieces of Fiestaware I thought I'd tossed out about 2 years ago in green, yellow and orange. I added what I found (after doing a big ole' happy dance!) to the leftovers in Fiestaware from the custom ordered peace sign I made last month and had enough to make a 10 inch peace sign with them. I added a lot of glass 1/2 circles and one other design in dish tiles to fill in the gaps, otherwise I wouldn't have had enough to get it covered. I'm so happy I found what I needed to make another large peace sign. Yay!

It is now grouted but I don't have photos of it yet. Once I get it painted around the sides and back it's getting place on Storenvy. I hope to work on this today.

Each day, as I said, I mosaic a few small pieces. These photos show all before grouting. The next post should have the ones I've grouted and finished up. I hope to list most of these.

I should be able to get some decent photos of what I've grouted soon. The Camera Goddess and I aren't really working well together right now. I've been known to take 65 photos of one item and delete them all due to fuzziness or general out-of-focus looking photos. It's all part of the process. The sun should be out for the rest of the week making it a little easier to get a good photo or two. I hope.

Come back on Friday, for Part Two. I will share the grouted pieces and more new ones to be grouted! I love to mosaic!!

Promo Blast!

3 Inch Round Ball Ornament - Custom Made - One Initial - Made To Order Item - Christmas In July - $40.00 each
Custom Made To Order Item - 3 Inch Round Ornament - Initial on one side Dancing Star or Holiday Tree on the other. Your choice in colors.

These spheres with a tree or dancing star on one side and an initial on the other make a great one-of-a-kind gift for everyone on your holiday list this year. How about that new baby in the family? Traditionally, these ornaments should last a very long time. Order a few and get a jumpstart on your holiday gift giving.

The glass/dishes color for filling in around the design can be any you'd like. Just let me know!

They have a ribbon for hanging and some cool details like ball chain around the ribbon. They may be covered in broken china or stained glass.

These are custom made to order. The price includes prep work and materials on one styrofoam ball for mosaic use, glass and the talent to make the magic!
The photos shown are the ones I made last year to give as an example as to how these will look when finished.

Last year in early December, I made some mosaic ornaments with an alpha initial shown in the photos here for each of the grandchildren and some extended family members' children for Christmas. They were such a big hit with the fam and I thought they turned out fairly well. Many customers asked if any were available for sale but the time necessary to make them can be up to 3 weeks if materials/supplies have to be ordered. And I couldn't offer them.
This year, I'm taking custom orders NOW for ornaments you'll want for Christmas, as part of the Christmas in July event happening in many online shops.

These ornaments will look slightly different from the photos shown here as all of my mosaics are not easily duplicated but the basics will be the same.

The only thing I will probably change in the design of these wonderfully unique ornaments is the bead attached to the hanger. I will work on a better system for hanging this year and probably won't use the bead but a small hook for the ribbon instead. Everything else should be the same!

Aren't they cool?!
Plan now to get handmade gifts for the holidays. These OOAK mosaics take time to create. Need more than one? No problem. Discounts available on multiple orders. Contact me for more details.

Promo Blast!

Sun Flower Mosaic Stained Glass Trivet or Candle Holder - Orange, Iridescent Amber, Yellow - FREE SHIPPING Within US - $40.00
Gorgeous stained glass mosaic sun flower plate done in orange, iridescent amber and yellow. Wonderful to look at through a sunny window. Can be used as a suncatcher, trivet or candle holder. Has been sealed to protect grout from stains but is not waterproof.

We call this design a "sun flower" because the center looks like a sun and the rays could be petals from a flower. It truly doesn't matter because we love it!

Measures 6 inches round

Makes a great housewarming gift, perfect for a special friend or co-worker, add to your den or guest bedroom/bathroom, college bound students love them for their dorms.

This plate is meant to be shown in sunlight. I used to call these plates suncatchers, but traditionally suncatchers are hung in the window to grab the light. My plates are heavy and hanging is not recommended nor do I craft them for that purpose. They look fantastic sitting in the window in a display dish holder.

Coming to the Ending of the Retrograde
