Throwback Thursday

Made almost 2 years to the day, this pretty blue/green candle holder caught my eye as I was rearranging things in the blanket chest that is filled with bubble wrapped mosaics for Etsy.

I think I like this candle holder because of the appealing grout color. It's also got stunning stained glass on it; a favorite to use is the clear blue that reminds me of the ocean. There's just something about these colors that are soothing and relaxing and perfect for anyone, of any age.

As I describe it on Etsy: "This beautiful candle holder soothes the soul and spirit just by looking at it. Depending on the light source, you'll see the blue green colors the best in the bottom part of this holder in daylight or the combined beauty of colors I used for it by candlelight. The top portion reminds us of water, the blue gentle waves can almost be heard when you study it. The bottom could be seaweed, swaying as the soft waves move it from left to right.

Perfect to use with a candle as a centerpiece on your table. We think this would make a great addition to an at-home spa or give the illusion that your ordinary bathroom could become one."

In The Studio - Friday

It's been so long since I've worked on a glass-on-glass project! I like to do a few to "warm up" the old muse's muscles a bit before making the few I really want to make. I have learned over the years that the first time I go back to something I haven't done in a while, I hardly ever like the result. Now instead of ripping off all the glass and starting again, a bit more frustrated than when I started, I make sure to have extra of whatever I am working on when I can. In that way I can play a little bit, get my hands used to cutting glass again, and also allowing myself the chance to really just go without much thought.

Blue scrap stained glass.

This week I am working on candle holders. Two, I will be gifting. One is going to a silent auction charity. I will mention more about it and share what I've made as the time gets closer in a few months. The other is going to a family member and I'd like to surprise them with it but chances are they will see it before it's gifted because I share so often on social media.

The first candle holder I'm working on is just a warm up. It might get listed on Etsy if I deem it worthy, although it doesn't have to be perfect. I'm doing it just for me and will gladly display it with the other candle holders once it's completed. I am enjoying slapping down glue and glass and just going for it. Always the most fun for me.

Purples and blues are being used for this one.

Perfectly imperfect!

I am having fun!

In The Studio - Friday

A little bit ago I was looking out the window at the beautiful leaves in the trees and realized how grateful I am to have an eye for color and design sense to at least a certain degree. My eye was drawn then to the stained glass vases sitting on my windowsill. This, in turn, made me look at my computer where I was editing some photos for my 2nd Storenvy shop which is dedicated to gift and decor items from photos I've taken over the years.

I decided since I'm not doing anything new since the last post from the studio, instead I'd share a pretty collage of items both mosaic and photo items available in my shops on Storenvy and Etsy. Like other collections I've done, use the links under the collage to take you right to the items I'm sharing here. If you like them, share with those you think might also enjoy seeing them.

Shower Curtain and Area rug set: $120 and up depending on size of rug.

Stained Glass Mosaic Vase: $75.00 + shipping

Lumbar Pillow - Available in 3 sizes: $33 and up depending on size.

Sometimes working in the studio means taking and editing photos for a few days of the things I'm getting ready to list for sale online. Photography, creativity, art ... it's all wrapped up in a work day for me. Life can be so full of wonder! Look at the photo I decided was the most awesome from the photos I took of the leaves on my tree in the morning while the sun was shining. Isn't it amazing?

Promo Blast!

Mid Century Modern Mosaic Wood Wall Hanging, Blue and White - 16 x 7 Inches - $160.00

Blue and white stained glass hand cut to fit a wooden trivet wall hanging made by my father in the 1950's. Mid Century Modern in shape and design. Blue and white flowers in the center. A small piece of rawhide is added to the top for hanging. Grouted in white.

The bottom has 3 hand whittled pegs to keep from hitting the wall when hung and to protect furniture when placed on a table. This can be used to hold a few glasses or a candle or two. Not recommended for food.

We love it as wall art and think it's best hanging in a kitchen or entryway. Perfect gift for newlyweds or newly retired. Measures 16 x 7 Inches.

Promo Blast!

Blue and Light Brown Mosaic Bowl - 7 x 4 Inches

I've added some mosaic magic to a sponge painted ceramic bowl. Simple design in blue and light brown in glass and ceramic tiles plus an Italian stained glass called Smalti are covered to the inside of the sponge painted bowl (circa 1990's).

Decorative purposes only. Not for long term storage for food or liquids.

I'm very proud of creating useful art. Here's a great example of how to recycle and reuse something. By recycling this bowl I've conserved valuable natural resources and saved something that would otherwise be buried in a landfill.

To clean this bowl you can run it under warm water with mild soap if necessary and wipe out with a damp sponge. Do NOT use harsh chemicals. Do NOT place in dishwasher or submerge in water.

This awesome bowl measures 4 inches high and 7 inches wide.

Promo Blast!

Mosaic Umbrella Wall Hanging - 5 x 6 inches - FREE SHIPPING Within US - $50.00
Isn't this mosaic umbrella cool?

I used a fantastic technique for the umbrella itself using paper and clear glass. The paper under the glass is from a doodle gone wrong. But I never toss things out if I think I can use them for something artistic in some way. I cut the doodle up into pieces and glued it onto the shape of the umbrella, painted the background around it in blue using acrylics and added a handle with ceramic pieces in brass. A piece of a glass rod nipped into a small circle added to the top. Then all areas were covered in clear stained glass and then grouted.

This has a wonderful look to it --- really unusual and unique. It would look great in a mudroom or hall. Hang it by your laundry room or the door to remind the fam to take their umbrellas if there's a chance of rain.

Measures 5 x 6 inches

The hanger is a pop top cap added by the person who cut these boards. This adds a bit of whimsy to the piece. We love it! And we hope you will too.

Sides and back are painted in black. It's been signed and dated.
