Mosaic Monday

Happy Labor Day Weekend! As the four day weekend is a goof-off and relax time for us here (my Grandson's birthday is tomorrow!), I haven't been in the Purple Palace to continue working on anything mosaic. However, there are always things to share on the website (which has been updated and is finally ready for viewing!). This is one of my favorite mosaics I've made. I love the way I did it (acrylic paint, dish tiles, tempered and stained glass) and the colors too. So much love went into this bird mosaic. A true celebration of nature and love. Way cool. 😁 So here we go.

At the heart of this mosaic is a beautifully detailed bird, delicately perched amidst a radiant sun. The sun itself is crafted in vibrant hues of orange, iridescent white, and rich yellow, creating a mesmerizing display that dances with light. The bird, fashioned from a finely detailed dish adorned with graceful vines, adds a touch of nature's elegance.

Mosaic Monday

Gorgeous Mosaic Bowl – One-of-a-Kind Upcycled Art

Originally a vintage sponge-painted bowl, this piece caught my eye in a secondhand store. Pretty as it was, I saw its true potential as a unique mosaic artwork. After its creative facelift, it now weighs a substantial 3 lbs 5 oz and is ready to shine as a decorative centerpiece.

Stained Glass and Smalti
7 x 4 inches
$150 USD

The mosaic design inside the bowl features a mix of beautiful stained glass in shades of blue, beige and blue-green glass tiles, medium tan and blue glass gems, and blue Smalti — richly colored, traditional mosaic tesserae once used in Byzantine art. The metal oxides in Smalti create stunning depth and variation in color, making each piece truly unique.

This bowl is decorative and functional: it looks striking in both sunlight and lamplight. Whether as a thoughtful gift or a special touch for your own space, it’s sure to be appreciated for the craftsmanship and care that went into its creation.

Please Note:

Not suitable for food or liquids

For indoor use only

Mosaic Monday - Stained Glass Moon Phases

This mosaic stained glass moon phases vase is truly a work of art. Each side has a phase of the moon's progress as it cycles throughout a month. The moon is done in iridescent white glass. The top is a beautiful deep blue, the center is in a bright orange and the bottom is in an even deeper purple. Place this near a light source or use as a candle holder to see the colors distinctly.

I think this would make anyone who loves moon art very happy. Use it in conjunction with the phases of the moon, turning it each time a new phase comes. Fill it with flowers in the center of a table or alter.

Gift to a best friend for their birthday. Makes a great wedding gift. Anyone who has a meditation practice with an alter would love this. WE love this! <3

DO NOT SUBMERGE IN WATER.

Measures 8 x 3 inches

Indoor use recommended. Can be used outdoors but do not leave in weather; rain or temperature changes. This is not weather-proof.

$80.00 USD - FREE SHIPPING (USA ONLY)

WIP Wednesday - Gazing Ball

I've been working fairly steadily on the gazing ball this week. It's coming along very nicely and should be resting in the "to be grouted" pile very soon.

It's going to look fantastic with black grout on it! Can't wait to see it become a finished mosaic. This will be available on my Etsy shop soon (this is for indoor use only due to the glue I used).

Mosaic Monday - Patchwork Peace Sign

Some of you may recall I had wanted to add a pretty daisy flower brooch on this peace sign. After completed it, it stood on it's own, without the brooch and distinctly told me it didn't need the added bling to look fantastic. I never mess with the muse, as I've often said, so here it is, as is, as a patchwork peace sign, standing on it's own. And looking fantastic!

Material: stained glass

Dimensions: Height: 8 Inches

Isn't this "Patchwork Peace Sign" cool? It reminds me of a crocheted throw blanket or an old-fashioned quilt. Done in many colors of stained glass in orange, red, beige, blue, green, brown and yellow. There are beige and green half circles in glass and small blue hand cut rods.

Gift this to someone who loves peace signs. Makes a great birthday present, holiday gift, anniversary gift, or a just because gift.

Works well in most every room. I'd say those who have a flair for homey decor will love this addition to their nest.

Back has a key hole hanger making it ready for the wall. A felt pad has been attached so the painted back will not scratch your walls. Signed and dated.

Indoor use only.

Measures 8 inches

Mosaic Monday - Mosaic Stained Glass Trivet

 Mosaic Stained Glass Trivet

Material: stained glass

Dimensions: Width: 6.5 Inches

A plain, boring mirrored candle holder and/or trivet is now a piece of original mosaic art! A simple design in waves of stained glass in orange, amber, yellow and red weave throughout this 6-1/2 inch trivet. Felt pads on the bottom to protect your table or other surfaces.

The reflective qualities in this are outstanding. You can see from the photos the way the triangles are shown throughout the mirror underneath the glass. In bright light you have an amazing light show!

This mirrored trivet looks great sitting on a table with a lit candle in the center - reflections go everywhere. This would make a great wedding gift or housewarming gift. Give the gift of handmade art to those you love. Or keep it for yourself and enjoy!

Indoor use only.

Tesserae Tuesday - Tess for the Temple

Originally I was calling the structure I'm building a shrine. Yesterday as I was putting it together to make it one piece, that little voice, my wonderful muse, said quite clearly that it's a temple. So that is now what I will call it. I never argue with the muse.

Tomorrow you'll see it all in one piece with the first layer of thin-set on it in my WIP Wednesday post. I'll be working on adding plaster cast strips to it today.

Below are the possible combinations and possibly all of the glass and dish tiles I'll use for the temple. Some may not get used. I'd rather pull out more than I need than not have the right color which is how this will go.

As of this writing, I'm only clear on a few details. The design itself is unknown. It will become clear that suns and moons and probably peace signs will be on it, I'm sure. Some cool words added. I'll be figuring it out as I'm putting the layers on the temple. Right now, all I know for sure is, it is going to be fun to create!

I often complain that I don't have enough of the right colored glass and have to get more. Right now I have more than I need but once the temple is finished, I might be saying that once more!

Tesserae Tuesday

I was looking through my many piles of bags and boxes of dishes, mirror and stained glass, etc. and thought it would be cool to share some "glam" shots of just a small section of what I have here to play with.

Dishes, stained glass, broken juice glasses, stringer glass, broken mugs and glass dishes. Just a smidgen of what is up here waiting for their turn to create some magic.

I think I'll share more next Tuesday. I am pretty sure the close-up photos are the best part! Glass and dishes for mosaic making can be so cool!

Tesserae Tuesday

There's a good chance that once the larkspur flower is finished and resting (waiting for glue to dry so it can be grouted), I'll be working on this ginormous crescent moon. Below is an example of how I work. The process is simple and not all that exciting but it is a process just the same.

I'm really not sure I'll have enough glass with these choice colors I've picked. At first, I had these:

Two different kinds of mirror and assorted blues (the lightest is iridescent). It is okay enough as it is, but I felt the amount I had of the blues might not be enough. That's when I started looking at my stash and deciding what else I could add. I found a tan or beige glass, also iridescent.

I don't think that's quite as "me" as I need it to be. I have some yellow and orange glass. That would look kind of cool. Both would work, actually, together with the glass I've already chosen.

I like this combination and will use them all. With the addition of the lighter colors that I like to use, the dark grout will make it pop!

Tesserae Tuesday

This week I am getting the things I ordered recently. It's exciting to see the notifications that the order is on its way or has been delivered. It's fun!!

I now have glue and thin set but I'm still waiting for grout. That's okay because the muse is snoozing and I'm not ready to get back to creating just yet.

Here are a few things that arrived over the past few days that will help the muse wake up and start the magical journey into mosaic making.

These bright and beautiful colors are from Mosaics By Maria. I love her glass! Thank you once again, Maria, for the quick turnaround time!

And here are the sun substrates from WoodCraftCutouts and the deep, dark, luscious stained glass and millefiori from ChristineBrallier both on Etsy.

I have a nice container I put new pieces of glass in before introducing them to their new brothers and sisters. It takes a while to acclimate, because they are the new favorites, all bright and shiny. But after a few weeks, when I start to need additional colors from my stash of supplies I have on the shelves, these get blended in with those and seem happy to co-exist.

The container looks small but holds all of these bags with ease. And the suns look on in amusement knowing they'll be getting a splash of primer and a hanger attached to their back end very soon before any glass shown here will be used. It's all good. Everybody plays well together. I insist on it. ;)

Mosaic Monday

Materials: stained glass, aventurine stones, recycled items
Dimensions: Height: 9 Inches; Width: 12 Inches

I made this mosaic alter using a glass cake stand adding hand cut stained glass in different hues of mostly green. Aventurine crystal stones were placed all throughout this mosaic alter. Green aventurine, in crystal healing, is used to clear away negative emotional patterns and supports the heart chakra. It also calms powerful feelings in the lower abdomen, such as anger, centered on the solar plexus chakra. This particular stone encourages the expression of gratitude, hope, and positive approaches to life. It is the perfect addition to this peaceful alter, allowing all those good vibes to come your way!

You can place a candle in the center of the lotus flower which is made up of green glass for the bottom leaves, frosted glass as the center petals and a green ceramic piece which also is made in the shape of lotus petals. I've painted the edges in green due to an imperfection in the ceramic (pieces were slightly chipped). Glued to the altered as well are a set of tall cut glass vintage salt and pepper shakers and small square glass salt and pepper cellars.

This 12 x 9 inch alter can be placed in the center of a table with candles around each area, flower buds in the tall glass vessels to create atmosphere for a gathering or for every day you need it.

Note: This is made up of all glass and heavy. It will be gently and lovingly packaged in bubble wrap and double boxed for it's protection during shipping.

As shown in the last photo to give you an example how to use this alter, you can add a candle to the center, incense in both cone and stick to help with your meditative practice. Adding crystals of your own, a flower bud and a feather instead of stick incense can make it unique. Make a genuine personal experience when you meditate for healing using this alter.

Give as a birthday present, gift to those who like recycled art. Add the 4 elements to your alter giving blessings to the earth, water, air, the sky. This can be a very powerful tool to help you in your enlightened journey for peace and harmony.

Namaste.
