Theme Thursday - Bohemian Flowers

I make a lotus like flower a lot in my mosaics. It's sort of the view from looking down at the flower, more than from the side view. I call these "Bohemian Flowers". That's the vibe that comes through every time, so that's why they are named as such.

I did try making one from the side and it all blended together with the background. It wasn't my favorite attempt at it but it's listed. Just because I'm not in love with it, doesn't mean someone along the way might think it's awesome. I decided it looked more like a lily than a lotus. It wasn't supposed to be a lily but it's what it looks like.

I also like to use what I call "Flower Power Flowers" because they remind me of the flower decals I had all over my walls as a teenager in the late 60's, early 70's.

Below are a few flowers from my Etsy shop. Enjoy!

Promo Blast!

Bright flowers in orange, green and blue wrap around the pitcher in stained glass and mirror. I call this design Flower Power. It makes me happy and keeps me smiling. This was a groovy project to do.

Decorative yet useful art is my favorite kind of art to make. Use in the kitchen to hold your cooking utensils, fill it up with flowers and place in the center of a table in any room in your home. Could even hold brushes and combs in the bathroom. This can be for anyone, at any age, placed in any room.

Measures 6 inches high, 3.5 inches wide and 4.5 inches long.

I gave the soft cream colored vintage pitcher an updated look. There are no markings on the bottom of the pitcher but the original felt "feet" are still in place.

I am proud to take forgotten items and create a beautiful, useful piece of art like this one. It is a delight to share with you all the joy I have when I give new purpose to old pieces.

DO NOT SUBMERGE IN WATER OR RUN THROUGH DISHWASHER.

WARNING: temperature changes could crack the grout and pop the mosaic pieces off. Not recommended for outdoor use where temperatures reach below zero as they sometimes do here in Pennsylvania.

In The Studio - Part One

Deciding to take a little break from the peace signs was the right thing to do for the muse. I've had a renewed excitement for color which is so important to me.

I worked on the pendants I shared the other day to give myself a little jumpstart before grabbing a larger project to mosaic. Getting the juices flowing, as it were.

The cat clock in one of my favorite designs I do, flower power, was started on Sunday and finished by Tuesday.

Here's the progress for each day.

In The Studio

This week, in the studio, it's a little slow. Weather has been humid and rainy which slows the drying process of paint, glue and grout. I've been waiting for the glue to dry completely on the coasters that I had planned to grout this past weekend. I'm fairly sure they are dry now, which means I can grout this coming weekend. Hooray!

I was working on the 2 Flower Power mosaics just before the fatal computer crash. I stopped all crafty work to concentrate on the new computer. Here's what they look like this morning.

One side of the mug is finished, the other side still needs work. I had glass on the unfinished side and didn't like it at all, so it's history now. That's when I put it aside giving myself time to love it again.

While I was waiting for the love to return for the above, I started on the owl.

That's as far as I've gotten on them. Hopefully I'll feel the pull towards them again soon.

I did a little prep work on a custom order which I can't share here just yet because it's just a white painted board. The sides will get some thinset on them and then I start in on the actual work. That's when I'll share. :)

I did a goofy drawing on the board I primed and painted the other day. I really don't draw too well but I give myself a break in knowing most of it will be covered in stained glass.

Mirror, tempered glass, glitter, and stained glass will get added here. The colors will be a surprise to me because I know what I want to see, I am just not sure it is what will be when I start working on it.

I'd like to do another board to accompany this one in the same colored background but with a moon and a star hanging from it. That's the plan, anyway.

And I found a great use for the gifted ceramic disks I received recently. I'm making them into magnets! I have to find the ones I did a few weeks ago and add magnets to them ... no clue where they are at the moment. In any case, these are great to give away as thank you gifts to customers.

And those tiny little magnets are super strong! I have to fight with them to get just one. They are going to be used on some of the small crosses I have put aside to mosaic.

I have a lot of mosaic work planned both in pique assiette and stained glass. Now that the computer troubles are behind me, I've found a lack of energy which I know is directly associated with the stress of the last few months' and in particular the computer chaos. I also know I will find my muse energized and ready to go very soon.

I like to work a little bit every day on something crafty. Honestly, some days I spend less than 5 minutes on something and don't get back to anything else for the rest of the day. Other times I wake up, pick up a project and get to work before coffee.

Here's hoping that next week (internet connection willing) I'll be sharing finished photos of the coasters and projects above.

Enjoy your day!

In The Studio

Happy Wednesday!

It's the 3rd day into the new format here and I'm loving it. I am more focused and centered on what needs to be done both in the studio and with marketing/networking/social media.

Let's get right to the fun things happening in the studio this week. I've made some peace sign coasters that will get grouted this weekend. I think they turned out really groovy. Here's what they looked like earlier this week.

I finished them up yesterday. I love them!

And I love making useful art!

I'm doing 'double duty' today starting on two new Flower Power projects. One is round and needs time for glue to dry before turning it to continue working on it. In order to keep the momentum going, I've got a nice flat substrate to work on too.

Depending on how quickly these go, I may be working on the next project after this before the week is through. This is an old cutting board my Dad made in a kidney design shape quite popular when I was growing up and again popular now as Retro. And a favorite of mine in design choices.

One it has the mosaic magic on it, it will be Retro wall art. Yay!

The other night I had an idea for a small mosaic for a nursery that will be done on wood. I drew out the templates but may not even use them. However, here is what I've got on the 'drawing board'.

I took a few photos of my tree this morning. It is the time of year when I am watching it, taking photos of it often and sharing its transition preparing for winter. I haven't edited them all yet, but I found one I like so much and thought of the song, Morning Has Broken sung by Cat Stevens. http://youtu.be/e0TInLOJuUM
