Friday - Bits and Pieces

Wrapping up another fun week of mostly artful things. There's a lot to share. I'll show you what's happened this week.

Doodles on painted papers

The red roses are gone but the orange ones are still beautiful. Those are my favorite!

A birthday present for my cousin. Under the painted paper is the description page about the Cardinal. I took these from a bird book

Special Thank you gift for the wonderful human who gifted me with birthday gifts this year. I really like this collage and I know she does too

Painted papers I embellished with stamps, paint, stencils, etc, I often use as wrapping paper - this one went to the sweet friend

Another example of an embellished painted paper used for my cousin's gift

Here's what that paper above looked like before I wrapped the Cardinal art piece in it

Two mosaic panels down ... 3 to go

Using my glue gun I spent some time putting designs on empty rolls sturdy enough to handle being pushed around. This turned out to be my favorite stencil.

Same stencil, different paint colors

Again the same stencil but paint was pretty much gone from the Gelli plate when I did this one. It's still going to be used at some point.

Here are the stencils made using a glue gun and sturdy tubes

Love these colors that came out on the paper from the roller. I like the doodles too.

Enjoy the journey.

Mosaic Monday

I've been busy working on the requested mosaic panels. I have to say, the way I approach making art is a little odd, even for me. I start in on it, THEN decide the design. The colors were decided, so that wasn't hard. But I honestly didn't know, other than the butterfly, what I would add or how until I started getting into it over the weekend. The last photo is of the 2nd panel. All 4 of the remaining panels will have vines and flowers. Only the first panel has a butterfly. However, some of the flowers, after I finished adding them, could be seen as butterflies.

My first attempt, filling in around the butterfly looked cluttered and not at all what I wanted to see. I took the ceramic pieces off and tried again.

This time, I noticed I could make vines and flowers going from panel to panel, maybe not a continuation in case the recipient would like to have 5 separate mosaic panels placed in different places instead of side-by-side.

The butterfly will have gray grout, the rest will be grouted in white. At this point I'm considering leave the panels sides and back white but will paint them with acrylics before grouting begins.

Vines on the second panel. I liked the feeling of the flow finally taking hold.

Next week I'll share progress and you can always see how it's going on Instagram and Facebook because I always share there as well.

Enjoy the journey.

In The Studio - Wednesday

Dusting off the old mosaic tools and getting to work was exactly what I needed. I've missed going into that zone where nothing else is as important as the piece of glass in my hand and where it needs to be placed on the substrate in front of me.

I had a lot of fun over the past few days creating mosaics and I'm continuing the rest of the week along the same path. Yay!

I put a mosaic on a 10 inch plate. My favorite design, the sun and moon. LOVE these colors too, so that's a bonus.

All the newly purchased stained glass and mirror will soon be put to work here!

I love making mosaic suns and moons. It makes me very happy.

Shiny glass ... yummy!

All ready for the grout pile.

And I got a beauty of a flower put on a trivet. This has tape all around it to protect the sides from the grout.

I was still trying to decide what color grout to use on this at this point.

Once I finished it, I knew I'd be using black grout!
I really am on a roll right now! Yay!

And next was a 3 paneled frame. I added a chain and hooks to the wooden frame and put a mosaic on the 3 sections on glass that go with it.

Similar in design to my big window, I can make these up a lot faster.
Love how this one looks!

Still wet from the glue, a few more pieces of glass will be added to this later today before it gets to rest for a while. It looks good!

Coming to the Ending of the Retrograde

I think I am fairly aware of the planetary activity and try to keep even more aware during the retrogrades when they occur. This time, howev...
