Tesserae Tuesday - Scrap Glass Mosaics

As many of you might already know, I LOVE scrap glass mosaics. Taking tiny pieces of glass is something I like to do anyway but putting them altogether in a cool way makes me really happy. The results look great when used on glass-on-glass projects but just as cool on MDF. Below are just a few of my scrap glass mosaics I've done over the years. All are in private collections or have been sold.

From The Studio - Friday

Grouting was done on the large candle holder and "Let It Snow" over the past weekend. As luck would have it, the person getting the candle holder was at a family gathering we had and so it was delivered to her by hand with much excitement and happiness.

cleaning until it shines

finished and gorgeous, it gets the "Namaste right here" frog's approval

While Asuka was finishing up the flower plate she had to put tempered glass on, I started a new project.

This design is similar to the bowl I made a few years ago. You can find it and soon this piece above on Etsy.

From The Studio - Wednesday

While sorting dish shards is mostly what I'm doing this week From The Studio, I am also every so often picking up the glass nippers and working on a mosaic panel privacy screen I've had as a WIP (work-in-progress) for a little over a year now.

Winter-themed "Let It Snow" a mosaic I started working on before we moved, sat unattended while we moved at the end of December 2016 and a long time after that. Recently I unearthed it once more and finished what I could. I needed/wanted some glass I didn't have enough of in the color I wanted it in for the background. So it sat a little longer until I made a sale and was able to purchase it from an Etsy shop. This stuff is awesome too. Tumbled and feels a lot like sea glass.

Started in November 2016
Picked up again December 2017
Started adding the border in January 2018

After the border was finished I had to put it all aside once more and wait for the glass I wanted to fill it in with.
Awesome glass, tumbled and sliced just right came from Pieces of Me Mosaics on Etsy.

At this point I was trying to decide if I wanted to keep them in one piece or cut them.

Nipping them was the right decision and I quickly went to work at the end of January 2018.

Finished and ready for grout! February 5, 2018
Check back on Friday when I share the next project on the work table and some general business news.

In The Studio - Wednesday

There isn't much to share that's new this week from the studio. I have been having fun working on the "how-to" projects I've shared here so far. They do take a little time to set up but it's worth it if they help people give mosaics a try. Here are the coaster sets I've made and shared the instructions for so far.

I did manage to get some grouting done. I'm very pleased with the results of both. No grout bled through underneath the glass by doing the precautionary glue/water mixture over the glass before it is grouted. The clean-up is way more difficult but it's worth it.

The hummingbird was listed in my aftcra shop yesterday. I have a little more work to do on the abstract glass one to get it completely clean from grout/glue before it's listed but it should get there before the end of the week!

I'm Back!!

I don't know if many of you realized I've been away from blogging for three weeks. We've been without the internet, or had limited service during that time and I wasn't able to write in my blog.

While away I decided to revamp my posts. I am going to keep a few things I liked: "In The Studio" posts for sure will stay. I'm going to add an "how-to" post each week. Some people have mentioned wanting to try making a mosaic but being afraid to start. I would love for everyone to just come to my future workshop space and learn some basics and intermediate mosaics. But until I get that part of my life figured out, I can share some things here.

I think it would be good to have some learning info in one central place, so I will be working on adding a post this weekend. I'm thinking of making a page to share some of the mosaics I have for sale, just as an additional place to purchase or order customs directly for those who like to read my blog, want to order something but really get tired of clicking on links and leaving the blog post to see what I'm selling. Now you shouldn't have to. I won't post everything I sell, but enough to give you something to look at without leaving the blog.

Meanwhile, Promo Blasts! will go away for a while and in its place there will be a personal post about my life on Monday's and possibly Friday's too. Some general things, some important things. A place for me to vent if I need it. You don't have to read those unless you really are interested but blogging for me has always been a way to express myself through writing, and I want to do that once more.

I'm not sure there will be any other posts but the FRESH START GoFundMe campaign is still going only not strongly at the moment. I could really use help with getting donations for that and I'm really not sure how to do it.

My vision boards for the next phase of business are looked at lovingly each day. I haven't forgotten where I want to go. I just put things on the back burner when other things became a bit more important.

So here is a quick grouping of photos of mosaics I've worked on while I was gone. Some are waiting for glue to dry, some just got listed. All are pretty cool, if I do say so myself.

Privacy screen - listed on aftcra

This vertical one is staying with me for a few reasons, but mostly because I love it too much to part with.
flower trivet - listed on aftcra
Large privacy screen - waiting for glue to dry to grout.
moon and sun plate in the window (second photo below shows how this same plate looks sitting flat on a surface) - listed on aftcra
