Taking A Summer Break! Sort of ...

Taking a summer break!

For the next few weeks I won't be writing blog posts for Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. Only posts will be done on Monday and Friday.

This is a time when I'm feeling the pull to do some personal things, relax a bit and not focus much on the blog. It's a little breather to take time to organize a little (when the heat allows), maybe do a little mosaic work but the muse is sleepy so probably not. I don't think I'll finish the crescent moon for a while. When she is refreshed and ready to go, I'll continue.

It's good to relax, refresh, recoup.

Posts will be made on July 24, 27 & 31, August 3 & 7. At that point, I'll be back full steam ahead!

Have an awesome summer.

Mosaic Monday - Mosaic Bowl, Stained Glass and Smalti

Materials: stained glass, glass gems, grout

Dimensions: Height: 7 Inches; Width: 4 Inches

This is one gorgeous mosaic bowl! This originally was a vintage sponge painted bowl pretty as it was, but I saw more potential for it as a piece of mosaic art.

I created the mosaic inside the bowl using beautiful stained glass in blues, glass tiles in beige and blue/green, glass gems in a medium tan color and blue Smalti (specialized mosaic tesserae made from richly colored glass. Originally developed for Byzantine mosaics, the glass contains metal oxides which produce an almost infinite range of color possibilities.)

This beauty can be useful but it looks great just as it is. It looks wonderful in the sunlight and lamplight. Chances are when gift-giving time comes around, you will be sure to find someone who can appreciate the time and attention it took to create this mosaic.

Great for newlyweds or anniversaries. Gift yourself! You deserve a treat! Place it in the center of a table in the living room, dining room or entryway. Can be used for keys and coins, or just as it is without anything in it. I've used these mosaic bowls for my hair brush, scrunchies, ponytail holders, barrettes, etc.; must be protected due to possible scratching of the glass and/or staining of the grout.

Not recommended for foods of any kind.

To clean this bowl you can run it under warm water with mild soap if necessary and gently wipe out with a damp sponge. Do NOT use harsh chemicals. Do NOT place in dishwasher or submerge in water.

This awesome bowl measures 7 inches high and about 4 inches high.

Decorative purposes only. Indoor Use Only.

$85.00 USD - FREE SHIPPING (USA ONLY)

This mosaic sun was created in early 2014. I think I'll let the photos tell the story.

WIP Wednesday - Crescent Moon and August Birth Flower

I'm still working on the crescent moon. Actually I took some time off to grout the things in the pile needing it and will get back to the moon once finishing touches are complete with those newly grouted pieces. Photos will need to be taken for listings as well. Then I can concentrate on the moon once more.

Here's the moon as it stands at the moment. Almost finished!

I'm sure it'll be finished within the week.

Next up, after the moon, is the next in the series of birth flower mosaics. August is gladiolus and so very pretty pinks and whites with green for the stems of course.

Hopefully it'll turn out looking as good as the larkspur has. This photo isn't the best but it shows what it now looks like after being grouted. I'm very pleased with the results.

The best thing about making these is the practice in flower mosaics I'm experiencing. Good practice indeed!

Tesserae Tuesday

I was looking through photos from 2015 and came across some great shots of stained glass and mirror I've used to make mosaic magic. Here are three pretty cool photos that need little explanation.

It's fun to go back and see what I've done and what kind of glass and mirror I've gotten over the years. Hooray for Tesserae Tuesday! Yay!!

Mosaic Monday - Stained Glass Trivet

Material: stained glass

Dimensions: Width: 6.5 Inches

A plain, boring mirrored candle holder and/or trivet is now a piece of original mosaic art! A simple design in waves of stained glass in orange, amber, yellow and red weave throughout this 6-1/2 inch trivet. Felt pads on the bottom to protect your table or other surfaces.

The reflective qualities in this are outstanding. You can see from the photos the way the triangles are shown throughout the mirror underneath the glass. In bright light you have an amazing light show! The last photo shows how the mosaic looked before grout, still as a work-in-progress.

This mirrored trivet looks great sitting on a table with a lit candle in the center - reflections go everywhere. This would make a great wedding gift or housewarming gift. Give the gift of handmade art to those you love especially yourself!

Indoor use only.

$45.00 USD - FREE SHIPPING (USA ONLY)

Throwback Thursday - Green Glass Mosaic Flower Dish

The best part of this flower dish and the 3 other ones in different colors that look like this, is that my step-granddaughter helped grout them in Spring of 2018. It was tedious work and she did an excellent job! We had fun working on them together which was the best part.

Flower petal plate in spring green with tempered or crash glass, half circles in iridescent glass and grouted in white. The flower is similar to a hibiscus in shape. Note the photo of the back to see it. The plate has an iridescent shimmer to it. Adding the tempered glass to it makes the shimmer still come through.

Makes a great gift for Mom, sister, aunt. This plate is purely decorative. Add it to a shelf or a side table near a window and let the sun do it's magic. You can put your keys, rings and coins in it however the metals over time will change the color of the grout. Grout whitener found in many stores will help keep it fresh.

Measures 8 inches. Plate stand included.

Indoor use only.

WIP Wednesday - Crescent Moon

Working on another crescent moon is almost as Zen as I can get. Celestial designs are my favorite.

I'm really digging this color combo. Initially I was going to add orange and yellow to it. That would have been fine but a bit busy and not what I wanted for this piece. I went with my original idea in color choices and am really glad I have.

I'll be working on this exclusively until it's ready for grout. By then, the 2 waiting to be grouted will be ready to be finished up. I'll share as I go!
