A Look Back

I'm still working on organizing the Purple Palace in between doing art and doodling at the appropriate tables. Some days I do a little of all things. Other days I think about what I want to do for a very long time. The energy passes and I wait for the next wave. In other words ... it's taking a while.

As I was moving a few things around in the Palace the last time energy hit I glanced at the wall behind me. What a wonderful display of art!

I appreciate the mosaics I've made over the years. This break from them might be exactly what was needed (besides giving my hands a rest from the tools involved in creating mosaics) to see -- really see the art. Remembering the stained glass and dish pieces I used, where I sat to create them. How many seasons I weathered to continue creating.

I'm extremely grateful for the gift given to me to create them. I'm mindful that I still have that gift each time I walk into the Purple Palace. I do know I have a lot more to get organized before I can start creating mosaics again. The fact is I still want to make them! They still bring me joy and that's a blessing. Which keeps me going when the energy arises to pull heavy glass and dishes here and there. Not easy work but rewarding once it'll all be finished. I know I'm honoring the gift by giving myself a break from it all to get everything placed where I feel it's necessary and then begin again.

My walls are covered with blessings. Not just my own but from my family as well. Mosaics, paintings and collage live on the walls and the alters. There's room for more! Huzzah!! Some of the hangings get askew on occasion when doors close or someone moves something heavy enough to make walls rattle (it happens). I'm still pleasantly surprised at the emotion I feel when looking, really seeing, the art here.

Wednesday - Art Table Fun

The most fun this week so far was taking naps, so there's not a whole lot going on at the art tables this week. My mojo has disappeared and taken energy with it. It's an ebb time for me. No worries, the flow will return soon.

I know I have to try to do something every day, no matter if it's for 5 minutes or 5 hours and so, here's how it's gone so far.

This is the back of a grocery receipt. Pretty nifty, if I do say so myself.

I used part of the receipt for the back of a card.

Here's the front of the card. Again, I say pretty nifty, huh, knowing it's just a piece of cardboard cut from a food box.

Painted paper embellishments before cutting it into pieces. If you notice, the bottom left flower was used in the card above.

2 of the painted papers I've embellished recently. The one above is my favorite. I'm not sure I even took a photo of the other one before cutting it. But it'll get used!

An entry in the collage practice book. Really love this. I drew a pumpkin then didn't like it so I covered it with deli paper. You can see still the drawing but it's just a shadow and that's fine with me.

Yesterday was a water color day. I love using watercolor paper but it's very thick compared to the other papers I use and harder to use with a glue stick and with liquid medium. I might not have the patience for it but I'll cut it up after doing some doodles and ?? TBD

Finally got the other two celestial designs placed in the proper place on the wall. The are top far left and top far right.

Friday - Bits and Pieces

Instead of taking time away from social media I've attempted to adjust the onslaught of it all. As I would, if I had a child using social media, I've limited my time. My eyes like to rest and my body likes to wake up gently, so mornings are good. I share my blog post between 7-8 am EST and then I take a brief look for birthday's and perhaps a comment on one of the posts from the day before. If it requires more than a thumbs up or a heart, I comment back later in the day, writing a reminder to do so.

So this week would have been the tail end of time away and I'm doing a lot of snuggling with the pup and just streaming stuff and things. I am doing a little art on days when I feel it, including grouting (yay me!) but for now, I'm just mostly resting and enjoying the time.

Here's a few things I've done this week. I grouted the peace sign!

 

I'm very pleased with how she turned out. On Mosaic Monday, I'll share the link for her through my website. It is available for purchase. She's gorgeous!

I got myself some flowers for my birthday. I need to do that more often. They make me smile.

 

I did manage to also play with painted papers and doodle on the roll-off papers that I added paint markings to. They are so cool and fun to do on evenings when I don't want to start a new doodle. I shared similar papers on Wednesday. Looks like I'll be building quite a collection for future collage work. Especially if I only use one or two doodles on the page per collage. Wow!

 

I'm working on something special for the holidays with both my doodles and collage art, separately, but I'm not very far along on the progress at the moment. I'm not even sure it will happen but if it doesn't all come together this year, I'll aim for the end of 2026. A goal or two is great to have!

I can share some doodles I've done recently, waiting for new alcohol ink markers to arrive so I can finish them up. I love them all, but the last one is probably a favorite. It's got kitties in it!

Not a bad week for someone who isn't energized or inspired. I believe the Muse took over a few times. That's always fine with me. I just allow intuition to do it's thing and get out of the way long enough for things to happen. I never overthink things with art. If I don't like it when it's finished, it becomes a part of something else. That's the way I do it, anyway.

Friday - Weekly Wrap Up

I mentioned last Friday that I'd no doubt use my website to share blog posts. In reality, I "talk" too much and need more room to share photos than offered on my site. And so, changing my mind, I'll keep this awesome blog going and add a post to the site on occasion. Once a week would work. We shall see.

Now ... to wrap up the week ...

I played with clay but am not really good with it. I don't use it enough to say I'm comfortable when using clay. I still need to sand and paint them. I wanted to make lettering like I often do to add to my art pieces. I didn't get that far but instead just played around with bubble wrap, a small twig and an Ammonite Fossil on one piece (it looks like a snail on a twig!) and a bee stamp on the other (this one looks like honeycomb). I'm not thrilled with these but I will finish them up in some way and consider attaching them to something; a board or a bottle or ???

 

Earlier in the week while I was organizing some painted papers, getting them into the boxes by color mostly, I noticed how diverse these papers are. Each one could become very precious if I allowed it. If I didn't use them, no one would see them. That's not the purpose of creating anything, let alone painted papers. I want to use them for collage and paper mosaics. That means I have to cut or rip them eventually. But seriously, aren't these cool? Until I know where they'll go and how, they'll stay in the box waiting for their time to shine and help me create something beautiful. Although honestly, each one as they are right now could be framed and look pretty awesome, don't you think?

 

I had a less than great art journal session this week. Not all weeks are good but most are. Still, the option to cover it all completely and start over is always there.

This art journal (one of three ongoing journals) is a board book, so changes to it are limited. I can't rip the page out, I can sand it all down, paint it and start over. Or I can leave it and write some notes somewhere on it as a reminder as to what I didn't like about it.

It started here with layers not really fitting too well around the design. In my defense, I was having a very bad physical day ... in lots of pain due to rain. It was not a great day but I need to be artful every day in some way. And so --- this was born.

 

Using magenta acrylic paint was a good way to tone down the papers I used but the different thicknesses bugged me. Oddly, different thicknesses when doing mosaics is not a big deal. But here, it was a big deal and I didn't like it at all.

I dug around in my boxes filled with painted papers and found some that was translucent (it's actually deli paper) that I had added some paint to and used it to cover the design.

Nope. Bad decision. Liked it even less. Adding the word "peace" to it was my way of surrendering to the page. It is what it is, AS it is.

I can see the magenta under the paper and a few pieces of my painted papers as well, but it just didn't turn out the way I imagined. That's okay, however. I'll try it again, maybe on the next page or in another journal.

The point to these art journals is to learn how to do techniques not yet experienced or less sure of what to do. They are to learn. A lot of times I end up with amazing pages of colorful art but not always. This one falls flat and instead of trying to fix it or paint over it to start over, I plan to leave it.

To sum it all up: it was a week of experimenting. Not all successful, but definitely a good week!
