Mosaic Monday - Crescent Moon Mosaic

Lavender Moon. It's hard to capture the beauty of this hand mixed lavender grout I used for this moon in photos but if I do say so myself the entire mosaic is absolutely luscious in person. The white iridescent glass sparkles in different hues ranging from yellow to purple, green and blue, the silver mirror grabs the light, dish pieces from my blue and white stash add the perfect blending. Topped off by small black iridescent glass circles and the lavender grout. It's awesome!!

Perfect for a birthday, wedding, anniversary, housewarming, holiday. Anyone who loves purple, blue and white AND celestial designs will absolutely LOVE this crescent moon.

Gift to a special someone or save it for yourself. As long as it's enjoyed, it's job is done.

My signature, a peace sign charm, has been added. A felt pad has been attached so the back will not scratch your walls. Signed and dated.

Indoor use only.

Measures 12 inches high

WIP Wednesday - Mosaic Crescent Moon

I'm considering calling this one Azure Moon. Not very original I guess but I think it describes it well.

This is where I left it when I took a break. Starting back up was really not difficult after resting for a while. The unfinished areas were completed within an hour.

I'm very pleased with how it looks. I'm considering my grout color choices. Until it is clear what to use, I won't grout it. Black is always a choice when I can't decide, but I have white and some purple and blue colorants. I also have a light beige color I could use. I think any light color will break up the darker spots in this so making the right decision is crucial. Perhaps I'll use the purple or I could use grey. As you can see, I have to make up my mind but it's still resting, so I don't have to decide right now. When the time comes, it'll be the perfect choice!

WIP Wednesday - Crescent Moon and August Birth Flower

I'm still working on the crescent moon. Actually I took some time off to grout the things in the pile needing it and will get back to the moon once finishing touches are complete with those newly grouted pieces. Photos will need to be taken for listings as well. Then I can concentrate on the moon once more.

Here's the moon as it stands at the moment. Almost finished!

I'm sure it'll be finished within the week.

Next up, after the moon, is the next in the series of birth flower mosaics. August is gladiolus and so very pretty pinks and whites with green for the stems of course.

Hopefully it'll turn out looking as good as the larkspur has. This photo isn't the best but it shows what it now looks like after being grouted. I'm very pleased with the results.

The best thing about making these is the practice in flower mosaics I'm experiencing. Good practice indeed!

Throwback Thursday - Crescent Moon and Sun Stained Glass Mosaic Plate

Made around 2016, created on an old glass dish, the vibe for this moon and sun is definitely hippie inspired. Bohemian styled and in honor of my teenage years, growing up in the 60's and 70's, as a flower child in spirit. This plate is extremely groovy.

Plate measures 10 inches and is a recycled dish given to me when I first moved to PA with my young children. It was used, loved and retired waiting for some mosaic magic.

One of my absolute favorites to create in mosaic form, moons and suns always make me happy. Fits in anywhere within the home or even a small apartment. Perfect for someone just starting out and/or ready to retire. Appeals to all ages, young and old.

We love this style; we love the energy that comes with this design. We love creating moons and suns in mosaics! It is the middle ground between the light of the sun and the darkness of night, and thus often represents the realm between the conscious and the unconscious. The circular shape alone is a symbol of the never ending circle of life. Placing a half moon and half sun inside the circle supplies even more meaning. The sun is often recognized as a symbol of rebirth, strength and power.

Mosaic Monday

Hello all! I'm back to blogging once more on a brand new PC. Woohoo!

Today I'd like to share Moon Beams the jewel and earth toned crescent moon. Happily, this recently sold and is on it's way to it's forever home as I write this. What a blessing!

Crescent Moon Mosaic Art, Jewel Tones, Bohemian, Hippie, Wall Art, Wall Hanging, Moon Art, Housewarming, Birthday, Wedding, Mothers Day

Mosaic Crescent Moon in hand cut Van Gogh glass, yellow and green stained glass, green iridescent glass and silver recycled mirror.

The swirls in mirror are from top to bottom; the gorgeous Van Gogh glass (a clear glue chip glass that is painted on the back with metallic, automotive-type pigment) surround the gems and silver swirls. The green and yellow glass is added around the Van Gogh glass. Triangles of iridescent green glass follow the swirls. Your eyes will travel up and down this beauty. A long-time friend has dubbed this "Moon Beams". Perfect!

Painted in black acrylic on the back. Measures 10 inches.

I'm getting more crescent moons in stock to do my mosaic magic. One is 15 inches, two are 12 inches. I'm sure I'll share WIP photos in the weeks to come, if you are interested to watch their birth.

From The Studio - Wednesday

A few posts ago, I shared the process of taking small glass beads off of a broken vase. I have since sorted them all by color as best as I could and they're in their own baggies.

Some pieces wouldn't come off the glass. That's what is seen at the far left in this photo.
The pieces that are in the far left bag might get used in some way as they are. But I'm happy with the amount I have to play with and use in future mosaics! Well worth the time it took.

I got a photo tent kit this week and am learning how to use it. The lights are wonky and I considered sending them back but wanted to use the tent as soon as it came out of the box, so I found a creative way to still use the lights. They are supposed to sit on tripod legs and from the reviews and comments I read it seems it's either hit or miss with them. Some work, some don't. The good news is if sent back they'd be replaced, but I'm keeping these, I think. As crazy as it looks, placing them inside empty coffee cans gives me the same results as tripod legs!

The tent is upside down but I wanted to get a shot of the progress as I was putting it together.

While totally unconventional, it works!

I used the blue filter with this shot. Nice!!
Not crazy about the plastic sheets and their wrinkles but it is a good learning tool for me. I am figuring out what I like, what I need in the future and how to take better photos.

My favorite photo so far has got to be this one.

Heading to Etsy very soon!
