WIP Wednesday - Swirling Moon

It's early in the process of this mosaic, so there's only one photo to share. However, it is a beauty.

Look at those colors. The blending of the light purple, pinkish color and the iridescent pieces so far is very nice. I think this will be mostly feminine, perhaps for a teens room or even an adult who loves these colors and celestial designs. I had no idea when I started how it would look but so far, even though it's only just begun, I love it.

I'll share more on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter during the week. Hop on over and check those sites out to see the progress daily. Meanwhile, here on the blog, I'll share the work-in-progress on Wednesday.

Enjoy the moments!

Tesserae Tuesday - Swirling Moon

After a lot of thought and contemplation on what color to use for this moon, I settled on soft purples and lilacs. Mostly because I had a lot of small scraps that would work for it. I like these color combos and I think it'll work really well.

Of course, mirror will fill in the swirly bits. I love using mirror. It helps make the magic happen!

Here is a good shot of the colors I'll use, along with my newest mug from naturallife.com. It's a VW bus with the words: "Follow your heart" on the inside. This morning it was filled up with pumpkin pie spice hazelnut coffee. I added the spice myself. Mmmm coffee.

So there you have it. The tess I'll use and the work-in-progress so far. Tomorrow I'll share more progress for this quick little mosaic which will be headed to Etsy as soon as it's grouted!

Mosaic Monday - Green Mosaic Wall Art

Materials: stained glass, glass tiles, mirror, glass rounds

Dimensions: Width: 6 Inches

This mosaic is 6 inches round and looks like a cool flower in the center. Glass rounds, glass tiles, hand cut stained glass, hand cut gold mirror and ball chain all come together nicely in this small but vibrant piece of mosaic art.

Gift this small art, keep it, use it as a focal point in an entryway, bathroom, dining room, living room, bedroom. Any room you'd like to share a piece of art, that's where this should go.

Makes a great gift for Mother's Day, Father's Day, Birthday, Wedding, Anniversary, Retirement.

Similar in design to the mosaic bowl I made (sold in 2019) which was intentional. I like this simple design very much. I hope you do too!

Indoor use only.

WIP Wednesday - Swirling Moon

There's a good chance this mosaic will be in my shop within the next month. So far, I've got the design on it but am not yet clear on the colors I'll use. I know the swirls will be iridescent or mirror. That's the easy part.

I didn't get a photo of it, but the way I add a hole to MDF when I need one is by using a screw eye (a screw with a circle at one end) because I don't have a drill. It takes a little patience but it works.

Tesserae Tuesday - It's My Birthday!

Today I've made my way around the sun successfully 66 times. Woohoo!

You can't see my smile but trust me. I'm smiling! My daughter cut my hair last week. Now it is short and I don't need it in a ponytail ALL the time!

As far as mosaic work, I am studying the designs for the temple. I know words will go on it. Depending on how ambitious I feel, I might use all of these shown below.

There will be a sun and a moon, probably a peace sign, a lotus flower. My favorite designs to do will be on it, displayed in some cohesive way. I'd like to take my time with it, so chances are, I'll stop to work on a few things for Etsy. Plus I'd like to work on September's Birth Flower.

So far, I've used a lot of pink! I'm hoping this one turns out a little better than the gladiolus. Although now that they are painted, they look pretty good. I love fixing grout using acrylics for indoor mosaics.

Looks a lot better, don't you think?

Mosaic Monday - Mosaic Bowl

Materials: stained glass, glass gems, glass tiles

Dimensions: Height: 2.5 Inches; Width: 7 Inches

Isn't this an awesome piece of art? I've added some mosaic magic to an old discarded ceramic serving bowl. Simple designs in orange, amber and brown in glass and ceramic tiles cover the inside giving it an updated look.

I'm very proud of creating useful art. Here's a great example of how to recycle and reuse something. By recycling this bowl I've conserved valuable natural resources and saved something that would otherwise be buried in a landfill.

Give this as a wedding gift, offering the happy couple a sustainable gift as you hope their union will be. This should last for years if cared for properly. Add it to any room in your home. It can be used to hold stuff and things but remember it is first and foremost a piece of art.

Set it in the center of a table to make a statement. Place it at the door to let your friends and family see it the very minute they enter your home. Make a statement and always consider buying from an artisan. Supporting handmade is never a bad thing.

Keep in mind this is for decorative purposes only. Not for long term storage for food or liquids. To clean this bowl you can run it under warm water with mild soap if necessary and wipe out with a damp sponge. Do NOT use harsh chemicals. Do NOT place in dishwasher or submerge in water.

This awesome bowl measures 2.5 inches high and 7 inches wide.

Indoor use only.

Theme Thursday - Blue

Blue is a favorite color of mine to use in mosaics. It's soothing and fresh. Crisp and clean. All the things I look for when I'm looking at home decor items or wall art. Function as well as design is a plus.

If I did it right, clicking on the photo will take you to the item on Etsy.

WIP Wednesday - Styrofoam Mosaic Shrine continues

The shrine has now been dubbed "The Temple". It's the muse's wish. I never argue.

The structure was put together using thin-set and fiberglass mesh in the areas where the pieces of Styrofoam come together. All the indentations in the Styrofoam were filled with thin-set on all pieces.

Thin-set and mesh are holding all the pieces in place.

The next step was the plaster cast strips.

The next step, another layer of thin-set. Then the fun begins with stained glass and dish tiles!

Tesserae Tuesday - Tess for the Temple

Originally I was calling the structure I'm building a shrine. Yesterday as I was putting it together to make it one piece, that little voice, my wonderful muse, said quite clearly that it's a temple. So that is now what I will call it. I never argue with the muse.

Tomorrow you'll see it all in one piece with the first layer of thin-set on it in my WIP Wednesday post. I'll be working on adding plaster cast strips to it today.

Below are the possible combinations and possibly all of the glass and dish tiles I'll use for the temple. Some may not get used. I'd rather pull out more than I need than not have the right color which is how this will go.

As of this writing, I'm only clear on a few details. The design itself is unknown. It will become clear that suns and moons and probably peace signs will be on it, I'm sure. Some cool words added. I'll be figuring it out as I'm putting the layers on the temple. Right now, all I know for sure is, it is going to be fun to create!

I often complain that I don't have enough of the right colored glass and have to get more. Right now I have more than I need but once the temple is finished, I might be saying that once more!

Mosaic Monday - Shabby Chic Peace Sign

Materials: dish tiles, flower brooch

Dimensions: Height: 8 Inches; Width: 8 Inches

How pretty is this Shabby Chic Peace Sign? Filled with flower and leaf dish tiles, the center has an old brooch attached. Filling in around the center of the sign is a cool checkered pattern in green, pink and white. Grouted in white, painted along the sides and back in pink.

Perfect for anyone who likes the soft look of Shabby Chic decor. Makes a great gift for a wedding, anniversary or a holiday.

Many people love peace signs; all ages seem to gravitate toward this sign. It never goes out of style and is always contemporary as well as nostalgic. Gift this to your tween, your grandmother, your boss, your 30-something daughter. Gift yourself. Just because.

A keyhole notch in the back makes this mosaic ready to hang.

Celebrate the gift of peace!

Indoor use only.
