My Mosaic Romance Continues

I am very happy to be creating mosaics once more in the Purple Palace. It's all set up with the right work table, the old tools and a new task light just ready to go!

I thought I'd start with a 6 inch peace sign to get the juices flowing again.

I really enjoyed mosaic making once more.

I was definitely in the zone for this 6 inch peace sign. I glued the glass down in one sitting. It took approximately 2 hours and is now sitting in the "to be grouted" pile.

Pretty groovy, huh. Isn't the collage paper under the mosaic cool too? Definitely Bohemian colors! I love it!

It's headed to Etsy at some point, along with a few more peace signs that are waiting for some mosaic magic. ☮ 🥳

Stay tuned!

Enjoy the journey.

It's Magical Monday

Throughout the year I often find times when the magic of mosaic making is exhausting. There are so many projects rolling around in my head that I have to write things down, put what I see together in some way to work on or often just gather enough of the supplies in one place to remember what I wanted to create.

This month was busy in that way but not much was yielded from it. I found I needed a few supplies I didn't have, even with all I do have, one thing was missing. Pushing that one aside to start on a new something or other was what I ended up doing.

By the end of a few crazy weeks of doing that, I have to now organize the aftermath.

Sometimes, tossing everything I've used into one bin and sorting it all is the only way I can do it. Right now, this is where I am. I have a lot of small pieces to sort through. It should take about a week to get through it all but I'll get there.

Meanwhile, I have some wood slices waiting for grout, a microwave plate waiting for some new glass so it can be made and there's a few switch plate covers, also small MDF wall hangings to make as well as a framed glass-on-plexiglass hanging.

I can't guarantee any of it will look like what you see here but I can say for certain it will all get made. Sometimes I use photos as guides, other times I draw a design to guide me and then there are times when the muse guides me and I just go for it.

Meanwhile, there's still time, but just enough, to order something from my shop on GoImagine. I've noticed a decline in delivery times as the year gets busier through the post office especially and I'm going to suggest, if you want something, to send me a message any place you've seen this announcement and we'll see if it can get to you before the holidays in December. My preferred shipping service is UPS but they too are a bit overwhelmed. It happens ...

Stay tuned! I'll share as I go, any and all progress.

Enjoy the journey.

From The Studio - Wednesday

I've been working on secret gifts lately so I haven't been able to share much. I am sharing what I've been working on now, which is a birthday gift for my son-in-law but he rarely haunts my news feed on Facebook nor does he read my blog posts, so I'm fairly sure I can share his gift here. On Friday, I'll share the other gift I made because it has been shipped, delivered and well-received.

I'm always looking for great shapes to mosaic on and we always have a bottle or two around here to use. In truth I have 6 empty wine bottles washed out and ready to do things on and have more to use, plus decanters, whiskey bottles and a few other assorted cool looking shapes in bottle form.

My SIL likes whiskey and saved a Four Roses bottle for me last year. I've been pushing it around on the shelf for all that time until it told me it was ready to become a mosaic. His birthday is this month, so that was exactly what I needed to hear.

I used dark purple and chartreuse stained glass, iridescent black glass, silver and green mirror, ball chain and tempered glass.
I put tempered glass over the roses emblem. I considered leaving them exposed but in the end I felt I needed to add glass.

Front - Almost finished

The back is pretty nifty looking too!

Back - Ready for grout

Now it's ready for the grout pile and I think it's awesome. I hope he does too!

In The Studio - Wednesday

My table has arrived and has been set up. I've got more glass and pique assiette than I thought I did! That's always a good thing. The hard part is spending the time sorting glass that can sometimes have more than one color in it, but sorting of any kind is also a good thing!

This folding table is perfect for my needs at the moment.
The containers have a lot of glass and tile in various colors in it, the jars are what's been sorted so far.

The process of sorting was easier when I had tweezers but I've managed to lose the 2 pair I had for mosaic work along the way over the past 6 months. It's going to be a slow process without them. More have been added to the ever growing list of things to get to rebuild my work area.

Most of what's in this container will have to be patient until tweezers are purchased.
Most of what's in the boxes is not sorted and contains stained glass and some dish shards too. The sheets of glass are being cut down to fit into the space available. I always use small pieces to mosaic with anyway.

Once this container of purple glass started to fill up I realized saying I don't have "any" glass to work with is not correct! I just didn't know where it was!!

Now that the sorting has begun I feel good about getting to work soon on a few candle holders. Sorting will continue as the months progress. I have to get more containers too. Slow and steady, but I'm getting there!! Woohoo!!

In The Studio - Wednesday

The kitty and I have moved to another room within the house and are settling in slowly but surely. My sciatica had been giving me a lot of trouble, although I did very little during the move. Until I feel a little more "sturdy", I'm not doing much organizing just yet. But I AM planning how I'll decorate, where the work table will go, how many containers I need and new supplies are necessary to get the muse back to her happiest place of all time: creating mosaic magic!

Hummer and Groovy Flowers looks pretty awesome hanging in this window.

I got myself an IKEA floor lamp recently. The shade is made of paper! How awesome is that?!

Not really focused but conveys enough to share anyway as Baby my sweet kitty looks on. That is my coffee station surrounded by lights and a small dorm fridge/freezer. Since this photo, I've added some mosaics on the pegs and around the mugs. I'll do my best to get a better photo and share it soon. :)

I am fortunate enough to have some beautiful scenery to work around and am using the deck when weather allows to grout what needs to be grouted this week. I'm sharing a photo of the view from my window which is where I'll be sitting when I do get a work table. Lots of inspiration here!

Room with a fantastic view!

Here is a photo of all that's waiting in the "to be grouted" pile.

Small candle holder, switch plate covers, star wall art and lotus wall art will all head to Etsy this month. The abstract wall art is a reward gift going to someone who donated money for my fundraiser last year. (NOTE: ONE more payment to make and the debt is completely paid!)

The next post will have some great photos from the deck as I grout the above (weather permitting). Exciting stuff!

In The Studio - Friday

The studio is a little less busy now that the donated mosaic is on it's way toward the silent auction in in a few weeks. It was picked up by the very sweet chairperson who asked if she could give me a hug for donating. I never say no to a hug!

I managed to get a few new mosaics listed on both Storenvy and Aftcra. Aftcra has a few items added to it each week that are already in Storenvy plus new things too. Eventually both shops will have the same items. This may seem redundant to most, but sharing on different online shops means different online customers. That's never a bad thing.

This week I was approached by possibly a new customer and a new large custom order who found me through Storenvy. Just like when I had an Etsy shop, people are finding me for their custom order needs. I love that it's starting to happen now that Storenvy has been open for a few years. More on that commission as it develops, if it does. Fingers crossed! The time-frame for it will be closer to late in the summer, so keep checking back to see what's new!

While I was resting yesterday, I did a few odds and ends. It's not uncommon for me to do small touch-ups or finishing touches on days when the muse needs to rest.

These are 2 of the newest small crosses. They are 4 inches and too big to call ornaments but the right size to call them small wall art. Now grouted and have unusual hooks on the back. All I need to do is add a string for hanging.

I used interesting bails on the back; they are from clothes pins. When Little Dude and I made snowflakes by taking apart clothes pins, painting them white and sprinkling them with glitter for holiday gifts 2 years ago, I was left with all the spring-like mechanisms from the pins.

I never throw much away that might be used for some art project in the future and these were no exception. Each pin has a spring in order for the pin to open and close. I ended up with 20+ of these springs and no clue what to do with them but knew I couldn't throw them away. I can always recycle, re-purpose, reuse!

Here, I've used them as a bail gluing them down with resin to make sure they stay put and I'll add a nice piece of twine to each one for hanging.

Being uninspired to start new mosaics isn't always a bad thing. Sometimes I just need to wait for the ideas to come flowing through but that requires patience and lots of down time. However, this plate was sitting next to me and I decided last night I had to finish it up and put it in the "to be grouted" pile of plates I've done so far.

NOW I can rest over the weekend!
