Expiring Soon!

This beauty leaves Etsy this month. It is also important to note that I'll be taking all the expired items from Etsy off of Storenvy as well as they expire. They won't be seen again until they are added to the new website which won't be up and running until mid-January 2015.

I'm sharing only one item this week although more are leaving the shop this month. I am fondest of this one. I play favorites!

Mixed Media Contemporary Art - $157.50

The title of this is "A New Horizon". I imagine standing towards the edge of a cliff where I see grass, hills, water, sand and rocks. It's a new beginning, a fresh start and an inspiration in one 12 inch mosaic stained glass plate.

When this is turned it completely changes perspective but no matter how it's placed, it is quite beautiful.

Stained glass colors used are green/yellow, amber, white/light blue and aquamarine.

I love making mosaics on discarded items; transforming them into something beautiful and unusual. Such is the case for this mosaic. Very small hand cut pieces of stained glass are placed on a discarded 12 inch microwave plate and grouted.

This plate is meant to be shown in sunlight. I used to call these plates suncatchers, but traditionally suncatchers are hung in the window to grab the light. My plates are heavy and hanging is not recommended nor do I craft them for that purpose. They look fantastic sitting in the window in a display dish holder (not included).

Layaway is available on this item. Contact me for more information.

Promo Blast!

I've picked a stained glass mosaic that is one of the most recent pieces I've made and will be expiring this month on Etsy. Never fear, this will return for sale at some point on my new website, but in the meantime, should you decide this would be the perfect addition to your home or as a gift, grab it now through Etsy!

Mosaic Candle Holder and/or Vase - $45

Beautiful blue stained glass pieces add such a soft, subtle addition to any room in your home. This stained glass candle holder is gorgeous. Soothing and delightful to look at with the sun shining through or with a candle in it. Day or night, this vase is incredible.

Measures 3-1/2 inches with glass "feet" added to make it possible to place on a tablecloth or other materials used for special occasions.

Wouldn't this make a great one-of-a-kind housewarming or hostess gift? Wouldn't it be great for the office in your home or at the workplace? It holds more than a candle. It could be used for pens, pencils, fresh flowers ... all with a touch of class.

Use it at home with a candle for a romantic feeling in your home. The candle light makes the colors of stained glass glow a brilliant luminosity. Sit it in a sunny spot and watch the blue stained glass come alive! It's gorgeous!!

It would be a wonderful surprise for anyone's birthday, make a special anniversary or retirement gift.

Fits any decor making it a great wedding gift or a wonderful treat for yourself! This is a mosaic that is functional as well as a useful art piece. Votive and tea lights fit easily in this holder.

DO NOT SUBMERGE IN WATER OR PLACE IN THE DISHWASHER.

Saying Hello

Just in case those who follow missed my announcement that I was extending my respite, I wanted to share a post just saying hello!

My bones have been struggling with the cold weather and some days I don't function at all. I call those days "pain management" days. I don't go to a doctor (no resources for that luxury), but I'm fairly sure it's arthritis as it runs in my family as does fibromyalgia and a few other unpleasant things that cause inflammations and pain.

Moving is good, creating is great, grouting is a miracle. I managed to do all 3 this past week while the temperatures plummeted here on the East Coast. However, there were a few days when walking down/up stairs was not possible.

It's a bad day today (raining and snowing), but I still wanted to share a few things I've listed on Etsy this week in spite of the pain and fog that comes with it.

"Magic Carpet" is made using toothpicks and a small paint brush - 2.5 x 8 inches

"Earth Angels Dance For The Moon" - my small painting of 3 angels dancing on the earth for the crescent moon with wavy clouds around it - 8 x 2.5 inches

Not bad for someone who can't bend her fingers this morning, huh! Everything I shared last week has been grouted. I'll show the rest of what I've done soon.

I've also been adding new items to my 2nd shop when I can. Check it out!

In The Studio

Busy with gifts but having a blast making them! I love to make mosaics. The more I make, the more I love it.

Everything requires grout now. I'm fairly sure I've shared some of these things here before, but I'm doing it again in case they were missed earlier.

First up are the crosses I've done. Not all are gifts. Some will get listed on Etsy.

And there's the owl that will get listed.

Some gifts my grandson made.

Some pendants for a few tweens and a little one.

The birthday gift for my son-in-law who has to share Christmas with his special day.

A wine bottle (can't wait to make another one of these!) using the way I dot paint as inspiration.

An elephant for my grandson.

A little ATC sized mosaic that combines dot painting and mosaic (first attempt). I want to make a few more of these and abandon them here and there and every where. They will be magnets when finished.

"Wedding Day"

A Day of the Dead Skull for my grandson's Aunt and Uncle.

And last, the only one that is grouted and ready to gift, the TARDIS.

There's one gift that will be late this year only because I needed to wait for a sale in order to get the materials needed. I'll share that when it arrives (which could be in 3-6 weeks).

Next Wednesday I'll share all gifts grouted! It's gonna be a messy week. But fun!! :)

I can also now share the 2 photos of the gifted items I made for the kind folks who donated money towards the fund raiser to get this new computer I'm using. Many thanks and lots and lots of love go out to each and every one of you who donated.

In The Studio

The studio should be buzzing with activity but we've all taken a bit of break to enjoy the freshly fallen snow. I don't play in it, but I enjoy taking photos of it.

The creative muse enjoyed the break as it often takes a lot out of us both to make detailed mosaics. My brain stays well toasted after working on more than one mosaic as I have this time. But now I'm ready to get back to work!

Before the snow arrived, I made a mosaic for my daughter and son-in-law. Entitled "Wedding Day", it's waiting for grout. This is one reason I've been needing rest ... this was a challenge to create.

Here's the original photo taken by the wedding photographer on their special day in 2012 that inspired to mosaic.

And here is my mosaic, not yet grouted.

Wedding Day - 10 x 10 inch

Wedding Day - using Stained Glass, Broken China, Mirror
This mosaic will have a few different grout colors. The dress will be done in white, the skin will have flesh tones, their hair will be brown, the suit will be black and the background will be gray. I'll use black and white grout and acrylics. I have more control with a paint brush than I do with a grouting tool and paint gives the same effect once finished.

My Grandson and I were talking this morning about making the gifts we were supposed to work on last week. We need to make key chains for his teachers, bus drivers and his great-grandparents. I think I'll get everything ready after he gets home from school today and we'll make them. I'll share photos when they are finished.

My son-in-law (the one shown above) has a birthday on Christmas, poor thing, so I always try to make him a birthday present in addition to a holiday gift. This year I've been stumped as to what to make for him until I remembered they went to Hawaii for their honeymoon and he might like a glass-on-glass beach scene trivet. I'm going to use that as my motivation and go for it later today.

I've got a few people to make gifts for yet before I can rest the muse again but I am positive I'll have most if not all finished by the time we gather together for holiday gift giving. Nothing compares to giving a handmade gift. I love to give them and I love to receive them!

Buddha's Garden

Buddha's Garden is complete. I need to scrap some glue and a few areas of grout off still, polish it a little more and then coat the stones with an enhancer that makes them shiny and call it finished!

Buddha's Garden - seen through natural light
13 x 15 glass-on-glass
Stained Glass and Stones
Buddha's Garden - sitting flat on a white shelf

I also got a little more grouting completed. I'm waiting for the paint to dry on the back so I can get it photographed and listed. I really love these dish shards and this elephant wall hanging.

After I took this photo, I noticed a bit of grout still on a few of the pieces of tess. After cleaning it, I picked it up and found this.

Elephant Dust
Great name for this photo, don't you think? :)

I took some photos of the pendants I put resin on this morning and found gaps in between the tiles, so another coating of resin is necessary before I can list them, IF I list them. I may stick with grout. It's messy too but not a liquid!

Here's what's waiting for me now.

Enjoy your weekend!
