Mosaic Monday - Wine Bottle Mosaic Art

Materials: dish tiles, ball chain, empty wine bottle

Dimensions: Height: 13 Inches

One of my empty wine bottles has become a piece of beautiful mosaic art!

The flowers and vines climb around the bottle from the neck to the base. Done in all dish tiles, hand cut to fit, I've made something headed for the recycling bin into a piece of nifty art. The neck has some ball chain wrapped around it, topped with 3 blue pieces of square glass tiles and a flower from the dishes used on the very top. My signature peace sign has been included.

Gift it, keep it, but please enjoy it. I love taking objects headed for the recycling bin or dumpster and turning it into a mosaic.

Would make a great retirement gift, wedding gift, birthday gift, or a just because gift.

Measures 13 inches high.

Indoor use only.

$55.00 USD - FREE SHIPPING (USA ONLY)

Tesserae Tuesday

Here is the scrap glass wine bottle, now resting, waiting for grout. That won't happen until all the glue under the glass pieces is dry. Since it's been damp and raining a lot these days, it might take a while.

I'm running low on black grout but I have enough to mix with white to make gray. That's a good color for this bottle as most of the glass used is a soft color combination.

WIP Wednesday

On my work table at the moment is a wine bottle getting lots of beautiful scrap glass!

I have one more small section on one side to do and then I can fill in the neck. I'm using all bits and pieces of glass I have, adding mirror here and there. I am so blessed to have so much to work with.

I'm sure I will be busy with many different projects over the next few months. There are 3 birthday's in April which means I have a little time to figure out what to make. Of course they will be slightly late but hopefully worth the wait.

As usual, I'll share as I go!

Thanks for visiting. Have a great Wednesday.

Tesserae Tuesday

Last week, I shared some of my favorite tesserae. I use so many different things, I decided to break it up into two posts.

I left off with: My favorite tesserae is whatever I'm using at the moment. I love dish tiles when I'm using them as much as I love stained glass when I'm using it. Mirror is a favorite as well.

Dish Tiles:
"Cactus Joe" - a birthday gift for a good friend
Spring-themed decorative birdhouse using dishes, an old flower brooch and some Mardi Gras beads
Recycled:

An old jug found at a thrift store using hand cut mirror and stained glass
Broken Mirror:

Stained glass, dish tiles and mirror were used for this wedding gift
Tempered/Crash Glass:

Tempered glass or crash glass as some call it was used on top of colorful foils. I added glitter. This was the start of a beautiful friendship using tempered glass, paint and glitter. The love continues to grow to this day.
As you can see by these examples, there are so many ways to create mosaics. I've had some fail horribly but most of the time, when I experiment, I am usually pleased with the results. This particular piece of art isn't a mosaic but was an experiment. It's called "A Dreamer's Fleeting Moments" and is done with tempered glass, beads, found objects, mixed media, paper, pens, paint and glitter.

The best part about this: it's done on a piece of Styrofoam that came out of a packing box. I covered it in many layers of thinset (cement).

Tesserae Tuesday

Over the years, I've used many different things to create with.

Buttons:
Some of the buttons on this one were vintage
Martini Glasses:

I called her "Olive" :)
Wine bottles:
Made for a group challenge online and gifted to extended family in NM

Next week, on Tesserae Tuesday, I'll continue sharing favorite things to use in my mosaics.

Tesserae Tuesday

This week I'm putting glass on an empty wine bottle. The color choices should be limited to these shown in the photo but as I begin working on it, I may hear the whisper of another color to add. Possibly green.

Soaking in the cup are a few pieces of a broken glass vase. I'll soak them a little at a time because it is time-consuming to "peel" the stained glass off of the clear glass that's cracked, broken into pieces with grout on it. It has a really awesome peacock feather design behind some of the glass however that seems to be staying on the cracked and broken vase. I did notice that the small tiles that are coming free from adhesive still have an iridescent quality. That's pretty cool.

I hope to start on this later today if I can get the broken glass separated from the stained glass. I'll share progress next week in the WIP Wednesday's post.

In The Studio

I've been away from the crafts table so far this week, promoting my mosaic shop on Etsy and sharing in the absolutely glow of love received by teammates through many teams I've joined. I'm making treasuries every day as a thank you to the DUB Team teammates for their extra "hearts" to items in my shop. I have noticed many teams are wonderful about sharing the love and it makes us all want to share even more. It's a beautiful thing.

I have a little pile of stained glass sitting next to me, waiting for me to go through and get to work on the baby shower gifts due in a few weeks.

Ah just looking at this array of glass and gems and other assorted things makes me smile. How I love to mosaic!

I have an overly large amount of photos of the Lighthouse for the Ocean Bottle Challenge which I have now shared with the group on Facebook, so I can post as many as I want at this point. And I want to! I also think this bottle has already been spoken for! Someone asked me if I had others like it, but I don't. I suppose I should make a few at some point soon. I struggled with this, to get it just right, and now I love it. Below are photos of it in natural and filtered light. Many photos. Glass-on-glass looks good in every light, in my opinion.

In The Studio

I'm almost finished with the GOG Challenge bottle; although I thought it was completed a few days ago, there's a little more to do.

I took a lot of photos of all sides and studied it for quite a while. I learned to use the digital camera as a tool to help me see things my eyes can't with the mosaic right in front of me. Sometimes a piece of glass looks off kilter in a photo that isn't all that visible with the naked eye and always looks so much better once it's fixed.

With these photos of the bottle, a few things bugged me.

The two stones on the front near the lighthouse just didn't please me. I replaced them with glass.

Much better! The stones on the back are still on the bottle.

The other thing that I'm working on now with this bottle is the outline of the lighthouse. It was an afterthought, after I put the sandy rocks around it at the bottom. You can see in the 2 photos above that show the lighthouse in full view, that the outline breaks up at the shore line. I don't like that but didn't really notice it until I saw the photos.

I'm working on adding the rest of the outline to the lighthouse today. My energy level has been on the low side with creativity these days, so doing this kind of thing, instead of starting something new is always a good thing.

And once it's finished, I'll share more photos next week.

I do like it now. Thank goodness. Grouting is next, once the outline is on and glue is dry. I thought at first that I'd use black grout but now I'm thinking white grout and acrylics might be fun. By the time it's ready for grout, I should have my decision made.

The Star Box for the DWB/MSF auction is waiting for grout but I need to get some tape (I think I mentioned that before - it's more of a reminder for myself and good to repeat it a few times). The item isn't due until the summer months, so I have time to gather funds for some tape and grout it. I also need to gather the funds for shipping both it and the other donation piece, the Quilt for The Ronald McDonald House and luckily both aren't due right this minute. I have time to get it all worked out - what a wonderful thing!

Next in the studio are a few birthday gifts and baby shower gifts for April. I should start on the April gifts later this week but of course, that's not where the muse wants to go. I've learned not to fight with her, so we'll see what she comes up with as the week unfolds. It's always fun to follow the muse on our creative adventures together!

I hope you'll come back to visit once in a while to see what new mosaics will be created next time from In The Studio.
