Expiring Soon!

This beauty leaves Etsy this month. It is also important to note that I'll be taking all the expired items from Etsy off of Storenvy as well as they expire. They won't be seen again until they are added to the new website which won't be up and running until mid-January 2015.

I'm sharing only one item this week although more are leaving the shop this month. I am fondest of this one. I play favorites!

Mixed Media Contemporary Art - $157.50

The title of this is "A New Horizon". I imagine standing towards the edge of a cliff where I see grass, hills, water, sand and rocks. It's a new beginning, a fresh start and an inspiration in one 12 inch mosaic stained glass plate.

When this is turned it completely changes perspective but no matter how it's placed, it is quite beautiful.

Stained glass colors used are green/yellow, amber, white/light blue and aquamarine.

I love making mosaics on discarded items; transforming them into something beautiful and unusual. Such is the case for this mosaic. Very small hand cut pieces of stained glass are placed on a discarded 12 inch microwave plate and grouted.

This plate is meant to be shown in sunlight. I used to call these plates suncatchers, but traditionally suncatchers are hung in the window to grab the light. My plates are heavy and hanging is not recommended nor do I craft them for that purpose. They look fantastic sitting in the window in a display dish holder (not included).

Layaway is available on this item. Contact me for more information.

A New Week Full of Possibilities

Each week I think how fortunate I am to have so many different ideas for crafty things floating around in my head. If I made the same thing all the same, I would be so bored!

As you may remember, I made some pendants last week. Most made the final cut, although a few are either going to be gifted or abandoned (in a good way, since I'm part of the Art Abandonment Group on Facebook) but most will be listed on Etsy.

My favorites have to be the ones using the mini ceramic tiles. I just love how they look!

I made a sale last night that pleased me so much. All sales are wonderful of course, but this one touched my hippie heart. A set of dot painted bottles are heading out this week to a couple having a "Love Ceremony". These are being gifted by another couple sharing in their special day. How cool is that?!

"Kashmir", the wine bottle measures 12 inches high. "Highway Star", the beer bottle measures 9-1/2 inches high. My bottles are named in loving tribute from song titles by the groups Led Zepplin and Deep Purple.
I've started a new Flower Power mosaic on an old ceramic jug I found at the thrift store a few months ago. I thought it would be awesome to put some broken dishes on this but once I got it home, I knew stained glass and mirror in the awesome flower design was needed. I'm adding the outline of each flower first. I love making these flowers. This mosaic will give the old jug a groovy facelift.

Happy Summer Solstice!

It's a family day today running errands with my daughter and spending time with my favorite little grand dude. I enjoy those days a lot and because I live with them, I get to have these joyful days often.

I have a few photos to share. Yesterday when I was out and about, I noticed something that had caught my eye a few days earlier, curbside. It was raining on that day and I decided not to stop and check it out, however, it stayed with my thoughts until I was in the area again. It was still sitting there and SCREAMING for me to bring it home. So I told my daughter she may want to hide her face as she gets so embarrassed when I curb grab and I went for it.
This is a wood foot board for a toddler's bed. Originally I thought it was a head board and when I am finished with it, that is what it will become. I imagine it covered in bright mosaics in broken dishes, mirror and stained glass. Isn't it awesome?! It will take some work on one side particularly, it looks like the frame (which was still there as well but broken beyond what I could repair in my tiny space without proper tools for such things) and the board were split from each other. Probably from too many times of jumping on the bed! ;) I'm very proud of myself for listening the voice inside me that guides me. It told me to get this and make it useful once more. I can do that.

Look who has dots! This is Luna Nuren after her ear surgery. She now sports a nice little strip painted in brown, orange, yellow and green. She's the coolest elephant on the planet!!

I worked a bit on the gazing ball. I ran out of glue so the errands today will include stopping for more.

Enjoy your day. Enjoy your weekend. Happy Summer!!

Yesterday I shared a coffee lid I use to put paint on when I do my dot paintings and discovered a cool little piece of art by accident on it.

Last night I painted a little scene on it and here's what it looks like now.

To me, it looks like a black cat and his shadow (with his back to us), staring at the clouds. I have NO idea what to do with it now, but obviously I can't use it to hold globs of paint any longer. I think I'll attempt to poke a hole in the top and put a piece of ribbon through it to hang it up.

I've been doing a lot of prep work getting ready for the next wave of mosaics. There's not much to share yet but I did make a sale last night that made me extremely happy. All sales make me smile, for sure, but this one was especially rewarding. I love to work on discarded items, as you may know, like empty beer and wine bottles but I also like to put mosaics on discarded microwave plates. I sold one of those and am so pleased! Not just because I made a sale (yay!) but because not only did we save something from the landfill, I added my mosaic touch to it and someone will now enjoy it in a new way. No longer useful as it was, it still has purpose in its new life. This pleases me very much. I'm feeling so grateful this day, happy that others see the beauty as I do. It's a very humbling experience.

I have gotten a little further along on the dot painting. I believe I'm going to have to figure out names for my bottles; each one is unique and should have a unique name besides painted bottle #3. Since I wasn't sure I was going to make more than one when I first started out with these, now that I'm into the 6th one, I believe I can giving them names. Now I just have to figure out what they want to be called.

Have a wonderful weekend.
Stay peaceful.

Theme Tuesday: Beach Cottage

Here's some fun beachy items from my Etsy shop. Some of these items may not be traditional but all would look great in a beach themed room. On days when you want to bring the beach with you, the pendant would help you to do just that!

Happy Tuesday!

Friday's Featured Item: Stained Glass Mosaic Suncatcher Holiday Decor

Stained Glass Mosaic, Suncatcher, Green, Red, Light Blue, Upcycled, Recycled, Holiday Decor - Measures 11 1/2 inches
Price: $185.00

This started as a discarded microwave plate we salvaged from the dumpster. Re-purposed, upcycled, reused and recycled is a goal for each mosaic I make. Here is the best reason for my choices. Something once discarded as no longer useful, has a new purpose.

This has a profoundly beautiful fused glass piece in green and red (circa 1985). I've chosen to surround that piece with greens, reds, a little yellow, and some light blue stained glass in hand cut bits and pieces of stained glass and glass gems. Grouted in charcoal and sealed but not waterproof.

Traditionally sun catchers are hung in the window to grab the light, however, my plates are heavy and hanging is not recommended nor do I craft them for that purpose. Instead, place this on a display dish holder as shown in photos (display holder not included) in any room near a sunny window and enjoy the immense beautiful of these colors with the sun shining through.

DO NOT SUBMERGE IN WATER.

Item price includes shipping, insurance and handling.

As always, thank you supporting handmade this holiday season and all throughout the year!

Be at peace.

Friday's Featured Item: Stained Glass Mixed Media Mosaic

Stained Glass Mixed Media Mosaic, Blue, Green, Upcycled/Recycled, Suncatcher, Birthday, Wedding, Anniversary
Measures 9 inches, Price: $110.00

This started as a discarded microwave plate (with a slight chip/crack in it).

Now, it is used to showcase many items almost all of them re-purposed including buttons, river stones and two unique fused glass pieces (broken).
There is so much to see in this small piece of art. It is soothing to look at, very peaceful in design to give the flowing appearance of water in a stream. Traditionally suncatchers are hung in the window to grab the light, however, my plates are heavy and hanging is not recommended nor do I craft them for that purpose. Looks fantastic sitting in the window as seen in the photos in a display dish holder.

Grouted in a hand blended grey, stones have been treated to give them extra shine. Stand is not included.

Item price includes shipping, insurance and handling.
