Tesserae Tuesday

Over the years, I've used many different things to create with.

Buttons:
Some of the buttons on this one were vintage
Martini Glasses:

I called her "Olive" :)
Wine bottles:
Made for a group challenge online and gifted to extended family in NM
My favorite tesserae is whatever I'm using at the moment. I love dish tiles when I'm using them as much as I love stained glass when I'm using it. Mirror is a favorite as well.

Next week, on Tesserae Tuesday, I'll continue sharing favorite things to use in my mosaics.

Mosaic Monday

Mosaic Flower, Bohemian style. I took an old MDF shelf heading toward the recycling bin and drew a flower on it, adding stained glass and recycled mirror making this groovy piece of mosaic art. The flower has an orange 1/2 circle in the center, iridescent glass and recycled mirror highlighting the brown, green, orange and red glass. Pretty pieces of mirror in swirls attach to the flower. Background is in black with spots here and there of colors of glass used in the flower. A small peace sign in the corner is my signature, and I've signed the back and dated it as well.

The back has 2 D-rings with a wire for easy and sturdy hanging. 2 felt pads are attached to the bottom to protect your walls from getting scratched by the MDF wood.

All hand cut pieces, done at the time of creation, this 11 x 16 inch wall hanging is quite an impressive addition to anyone's home or office.

I enjoy taking things headed toward the landfill and creating something unique with them. Broken pieces of mirror and the shelf itself, were salvaged and reused.

Throwback Thursday

This week's throwback is the Meditation Shrine I made in 2016. This is from my personal collection and is not for sale.

I found a lot of work-in-progress photos on my external hard drive, which makes me happy. So here they are!

This was, in a previous life, a clock casing. The parts fell out or broke, and eventually it was just a few pieces of wood that looked like a house. I saw potential and set to work creating a Meditation Shrine.

It took approximately 3 months to complete. All recycled materials were used and the glass, mirror and dishes were hand cut by me.

If I had a "do-over" for this mosaic, I'd have put the words up and down instead of side to side. They are hard to read this way. The top says Meditate and Breathe, the sides say Mind-Matter-Spirit and Give Thanks and the bottom says Awareness.

Stained glass, mirror and dish tiles were added inside, top to bottom.

This is the back of the shrine.

This is the inside, bottom section. Namaste.

As I picked up the shrine to take photos of it for this post, the angel on one side fell off ... again ... I think I'll glue these to the inside because every time I move the shrine, one or both fall off. They are bronze and heavy and the glues I have aren't really handling them well.
Love

Peace

Happiness

I love the back and sides as much as the front.

WIP Wednesday

The unicorn I shared last Wednesday has been completed except for grouting. I'm thrilled with how it looks.

So filled with magic!! I'll share the final results next week. I plan to grout this weekend.

Tesserae Tuesday

This week I'm putting glass on an empty wine bottle. The color choices should be limited to these shown in the photo but as I begin working on it, I may hear the whisper of another color to add. Possibly green.

Soaking in the cup are a few pieces of a broken glass vase. I'll soak them a little at a time because it is time-consuming to "peel" the stained glass off of the clear glass that's cracked, broken into pieces with grout on it. It has a really awesome peacock feather design behind some of the glass however that seems to be staying on the cracked and broken vase. I did notice that the small tiles that are coming free from adhesive still have an iridescent quality. That's pretty cool.

I hope to start on this later today if I can get the broken glass separated from the stained glass. I'll share progress next week in the WIP Wednesday's post.

Mosaic Monday

Materials: stained glass, glass tiles, mirror, glass rounds

Dimensions: Width: 6 Inches

This mosaic is 6 inches round and looks like a cool flower in the center. Glass rounds, glass tiles, hand cut stained glass, hand cut gold mirror and ball chain all come together nicely in this small but vibrant piece of mosaic art.

Gift this small art, keep it, use it as a focal point in an entryway, bathroom, dining room, living room, bedroom. Any room you'd like to share a piece of art, that's where this should go.

Makes a great gift for Mother's Day, Father's Day, Birthday, Wedding, Anniversary, Retirement.

Fantastic Friday

In a world where we have to stay in and stay calm, we all could use a little self-care. One way I think it should be done, is giving yourself a spa day. Both genders can appreciate taking care of ourselves so that we can, in turn, take care of those we love.

And for those with children at home, house-bound for the time being, the last one might be the best thing I've seen in a long time.

Enjoy and here's to a spa day! Yay!!

Throwback Thursday

Sold in 2018, this is an abstract stained glass mosaic made using photographs I took of leaves throughout the fall season from my favorite tree in the apartment complex I once lived in. I taped them all together and placed it on the bottom of the plate and added stained glass colors representing the colors of the leaves; following the color scheme more than the actual shapes of leaves and trees.

No matter how you turn this piece of art, it completely changes perspective. Honestly, no matter how it's placed, it is quite beautiful. Stained glass colors used are all the colors you find in nature during the fall season. I hand cut every piece of glass in this mosaic.

I love making mosaics on discarded items; transforming them into something beautiful and unusual. Such is the case for this mosaic. Very small hand cut pieces of stained glass were placed on a discarded 15 inch microwave plate and grouted, creating a work of art.

WIP Wednesday

Working on this unicorn is almost life altering. This is a true magical adventure.

I really enjoy my Zen time with mosaics. They are the best way I have to stay creative. When I decided to make this mosaic, I knew it was going to be fun but slightly difficult. The idea of making a magical creature became exciting and I knew whatever happens it'll be fun!

So far, the only thing I had a little trouble with was the mane. I ultimately used ball chain to help with direction and give it an outline of sorts.

Here's the progress to date.

Working on the unicorn body, I knew it had to be colorful. The end result was to use glass and mirror.

At this point, the pink fill in started to look like a rainbow. I thought I might go with that but the muse said no, continue filling it all in with pink.

When I stopped working on this for the night, I realized there really was magic happening here. Can you see the pink silhouette of a horse around the unicorn? How cool is that?!

Once the entire background is filled in, I plan to grout in white. I think for fun I'll paint the unicorn in pink with glitter in it.
