Wednesday - Weekly Progress

This week I've been working on two mosaics at the same time. One I can share right now, the other will be in a future post.

I'm really enjoying the wildflower bottle I'm working on. It's not yet finished, still in the work-in-progress phase.

This is the front side of the bottle. From the white pieces at the top on up to the bottle cap will be small grey tiles because I have a ton of them to use.

One side. I really love these vines a lot. They came out exactly as I imagined.

The back of the bottle is probably my favorite part. All done using hand cut dish pieces, except for the circles which are glass rods I cut to fit in the center.

The other side. The dish pieces used are from gifted dish tiles, broken plates and plates I cut for this purpose.

I just started building up stock again with some wood and MDF shapes. It's so nice to be able to find the shapes I like once more. They weren't easy to find for a few years. I'm still waiting for a few items. These cool peace signs were purchased from TheColorOfWhimsy through Etsy. I ordered a 12 inch one and they sent me a 10 inch one for free! How awesome is that?! It's possible one might get dot painted but I'm not sure about that just yet. Time will tell. ;)

Wednesday - Weekly Progress

It's Wednesday and I'm posting to share what's happening in the Purple Palace so far this week.

When I doodle, I usually sit in the main area of my room and stream something at the same time. But when I mosaic and grout, it's done in the Purple Palace and the Garage Art Space. I really like having the separation between art mediums in this way. It lets me stay less cluttered in my head.

Here's a photo of the sun streaming through my window on Sunday afternoon. Everyday that the sun shines, I get a nice light show! This too helps me focus and relax and enjoy the artful days.

I'm almost finished with the bottle I've been working on. There's more to do and then it'll be grouted but it's going well so far. I think I like the back side of the bottle (pink & white flowers) a little more than the front side. However, it's all wildflowers and that's what I wanted for my first mosaic with them in mind. Last week I shared what the sides look like. You can find that easily enough by scrolling down a bit.

Front of bottle

Back of bottle

Here's a photo of Love. It's sitting in the "to be grouted" pile all by it's lonesome. The bottle will soon be sharing space in that pile.

And of course, there's doodles being made every day. Here are a few of my favorites. Out of the three shared here, I like the middle one the best. I'm practicing Physalis or Lantern Pods in doodle form. Almost got it!

Wednesday - Midweek Progress

It's Wednesday and there's a new mosaic in the works. Yay!

I've been thinking a lot about wildflowers. I wanted to do some mosaics using my doodles as inspiration and although I draw flowers and they are certainly wild, they aren't really different. The design shape is the same. So I looked through some coloring pages and got a good idea as to what I wanted to try.

Then I had to figure out what to do the mosaic on. I have a few panels but I'd like to try one on a square glass vase I have in my stash as well but not for the first try. I wanted to experiment a bit.

I pulled out a Jack Daniels bottle (empty) and painted it with primer. Clean, white slate. I chose this method because I had a really hard time getting the labels off of this bottle. Some come off easily and I know all the tricks to get them to do so while others seem to have one purpose and don't want to give it up just yet.

I drew on the bottle and started in on the work on Monday. Here's where I am so far.

My favorite part on this so far is using the border of some plates (the pink and green pieces) as vines and stems. It's going to be fun filling in all the flowers with dish pieces. I'm enjoying this journey.

I also, of course, have a slew of doodles but instead of sharing them all, I thought I'd just show a few.

Transformation Tuesday

Tuesday is the day to share how I transform pieces of jewelry, paper, tiles, stained glass and mirror onto wood and tin lids and make them all into art.

Friday's Wrap-Up

Wrapping up another artistic week here at the Purple Palace. Lots of doodles mostly because I got myself some new art supplies.

Before I share all the drawing fun, here's the mosaic I worked on last week and finished up yesterday. It's now in the grout pile. I like to grout on the weekends, which means it might possibly get grouted and will be hanging on the wall next time I write.

Now onto the doodles. I'll share them as I normally do, in order, but I'd like to mention the last one in particular under the photo. Take a minute to read it if you are so inclined.

This last one is especially meaningful. I'm reading "Being Peace" by Thich Nhat Hanh. The quote within the doodle is from that book. I've noticed a shift in my being this week. I took a bit of a break from the internet and chatting a lot with family and friends to just go within, read, do my art, drink my coffee in the morning, wine in the evening. I can honestly say it is the life I'd always dreamed of. My daughter and the fam have helped me get here and they're still here so I am not alone or lonely. There are cats and a dog, nature all around me. Like Spring, I'm coming into focus. I think my art reflects this.

Until next week ... ☮

Enjoy the journey.
