WIP Wednesday - Swiriling Moon Amethyst and Patchwork Peace Sign

I've got two mosaics to share today. The Swirling Moon Amethyst is grouted in pretty plum grout. I think it's ready for the peace sign signature charm to be added and some photos for listing on Etsy.

The Patchwork Peace Sign I shared yesterday was finished within an hour. I love working on peace signs but I also love how they are a quick project for me, most of the time. It's satisfying to see the results so quickly too. Instant gratification!

The flowers aren't yet attached. I'll glue them in place once the mosaic is grouted in black. It will make these colors pop!

Tesserae Tuesday - Patchwork Peace Sign

There's only one photo to share today but it's the newest mosaic on the table this week. These colors are so awesome. I love them!

The daisies will be added after the mosaic work is completed. Aren't these bright and cheerful colors?

WIP Wednesday - Swirling Moon - Ready for Grout!

I'm pretty happy with the results of this mosaic. It's in the grout pile and should be grouted at some point over the weekend.

When the sun was shining as I worked on this, the iridescent colors in the glass came through very nicely.

This is one of those mosaics that looks so much better in person. Hopefully I'll get photos when I list it that will do it justice.

I'll share it again when it's listed. Isn't it pretty?!

Tesserae Tuesday - Tempered Glass

I have used tempered or crash glass for about 10 years. Maybe a little longer. It is my "go to" when I want to paint and use glitter and glass and grout to create something. I've made coasters, wall art, mixed media art and home decor using tempered glass that was once part of a car's windshield, an outdoor table top or someone's shower door.

Really, if you can find it, tempered glass is great to use in mosaics. There is a warning here, however, it splinters and HURTS when it gets under your skin. But the fun part is getting a large sheet and tapping it just right in the corner. Then sit back and listen to what sounds like the candy "Pop Rocks" crackling all the way through the sheet. Some use tape to keep it together, I've known others to use a glue and water wash to just keep it temporarily in one large piece. I take the pieces and put them in a box. When it's time to use it, most often there are still large enough pieces for me to use in my mosaics.

Here are a few examples, shown in photos.

If you have any questions on how to use tempered glass, please send me a message. I might be able to help you.
