WIP Wednesday

Well, here it is, time to share a new WIP and I don't have anything to show you yet. But I do have a design on a crescent moon ready for some work when I get the ball chain I ordered. Once it arrives, I will hopefully find the inspiration and color choices to go along with it.

This is 15 inches high, about 12 inches wide from tip to side.

Whenever I do a custom order, I get 2 substrates just in case I don't like the way it's going. Sometimes it's a blessing to know I have another one the same size if I see the work isn't happening the way it should. This was an extra I got from the custom I did at Christmas time. I'll share that here too, so you can see something colorful at the very least.

Honestly, I'm supposed to be working on a gift for my son-in-law for his birthday which was in April. I stare at what I want to make him almost every day but the muse is not inspired to do much just yet. Hopefully someday soon I'll pick up the tools and glass and just go to it. Meanwhile, planning and deciding what to do and how to do it, is all I'm able to do just now. It'll happen. I'm just not sure exactly when.

Tesserae Tuesday

This week I am getting the things I ordered recently. It's exciting to see the notifications that the order is on its way or has been delivered. It's fun!!

I now have glue and thin set but I'm still waiting for grout. That's okay because the muse is snoozing and I'm not ready to get back to creating just yet.

Here are a few things that arrived over the past few days that will help the muse wake up and start the magical journey into mosaic making.

These bright and beautiful colors are from Mosaics By Maria. I love her glass! Thank you once again, Maria, for the quick turnaround time!

And here are the sun substrates from WoodCraftCutouts and the deep, dark, luscious stained glass and millefiori from ChristineBrallier both on Etsy.

I have a nice container I put new pieces of glass in before introducing them to their new brothers and sisters. It takes a while to acclimate, because they are the new favorites, all bright and shiny. But after a few weeks, when I start to need additional colors from my stash of supplies I have on the shelves, these get blended in with those and seem happy to co-exist.

The container looks small but holds all of these bags with ease. And the suns look on in amusement knowing they'll be getting a splash of primer and a hanger attached to their back end very soon before any glass shown here will be used. It's all good. Everybody plays well together. I insist on it. ;)

Mosaic Monday

Hello all! I'm back to blogging once more on a brand new PC. Woohoo!

Today I'd like to share Moon Beams the jewel and earth toned crescent moon. Happily, this recently sold and is on it's way to it's forever home as I write this. What a blessing!

Crescent Moon Mosaic Art, Jewel Tones, Bohemian, Hippie, Wall Art, Wall Hanging, Moon Art, Housewarming, Birthday, Wedding, Mothers Day

Mosaic Crescent Moon in hand cut Van Gogh glass, yellow and green stained glass, green iridescent glass and silver recycled mirror.

The swirls in mirror are from top to bottom; the gorgeous Van Gogh glass (a clear glue chip glass that is painted on the back with metallic, automotive-type pigment) surround the gems and silver swirls. The green and yellow glass is added around the Van Gogh glass. Triangles of iridescent green glass follow the swirls. Your eyes will travel up and down this beauty. A long-time friend has dubbed this "Moon Beams". Perfect!

Painted in black acrylic on the back. Measures 10 inches.

I'm getting more crescent moons in stock to do my mosaic magic. One is 15 inches, two are 12 inches. I'm sure I'll share WIP photos in the weeks to come, if you are interested to watch their birth.

Tesserae Tuesday

When I work on a 3D project like this birdhouse, I try to use patterns and tess that are easy for me to use. I've covered this beauty with dish tiles and mirror. The roof has ceramic tiles, the sides and bottom have dish pieces and mirror.

Here's what it says in the description on Etsy: Check out this groovy mosaic bird house! Covered in awesome hand cut dish tiles and silver mirror on all sides. Front and back have flower designs, under the tiles roof there are more hand cut dishes; even the bottom is covered. All exposed areas of wood were painted in bright blue and green.

Those who like a garden feeling within their home will love this. Great to gift to someone who has just bought a home. Birthday, wedding, anniversary, retirement, even for a children's room. It fits in wherever you need it to.

This mosaic is for decorative purposes only. Indoor uses. Not recommended for outdoors.

Measures 11 inches high by 12 inches wide from roof tip to tip.

Pretty nifty, huh?

Gift this to your favorite hippie or keep it for yourself. Makes a great birthday gift, wedding present, retirement surprise.

My signature, a peace sign charm, has been added. Back has a sawtooth hanger making it ready for hanging. Felt pads have been attached so the painted back will not scratch your walls. Signed and dated.

Throwback Thursday

Throwback Thursday. Boy do I love this one. This is mine!

Made in February 2010, big chunks of millefiori, tiles, glass, iridescent glass, stained glass. It's one of my all time favorite pieces that I won't ever sell.

The size is 5 x 5.5 inches. Done on a piece of scrap wood that was given to me by my Dad, the shape reminds me of a piece of toast! ;)

I took this photo yesterday. It's still lookin' good! And it's kitty approved. Sort of. I put it down next to her and she smelled it and was completely uninterested. The sun is more interesting to her. I'm okay with that.
