Brightly colored flowered vintage dishes cover this cool elephant. Measuring 9-1/2 inches by 7 inches, it has 2 keyholes on the back making it ready to hang. Sides and back are painted black.
The vintage china used here is from a local pottery factory outside of my hometown. Stangl Pottery ( http:///www.tanglpottery.org ) from Flemington, NJ. They were from my own family collection that over the years chipped and cracked beyond repair. Placed in cupboards away from view for years, when they were pulled out again, I knew they still had purpose. They still have much beauty, as you can see here. Still useful, but in another way. Re-purposing is my favorite part about making mosaics!
I am proud to take items destined for the trash and create a beautiful, useful piece of art like this one. It is a delight to share with you all the joy I have when I find broken objects and give them new purpose like the dishes I used here on this little elephant. The art pieces I make using discarded and/or broken items holds a special place in my heart.
And just for fun, here's a photo I have entitled Elephant Dust.
